PRINCE Harry will train as an Apache helicopter pilot after being selected for the prestigious regiment by the British Army Air Corps, according to the UK Ministry of Defence.

Harry was previously reported to have qualified for the competitive Apache training, a program that only graduates 24 pilots annually, but was reportedly considering learning to fly the British-made Lynx 9A instead.

"It is a huge honour to have the chance to train on the Apache, which is an awesome helicopter," Harry said, adding it would be "one of the biggest challenges of my life so far".

"It is a seriously daunting prospect, but I can't wait," said the prince, who is third in line to the British throne.

He will begin the eight-month training course in July. If successful, he will join an Apache regiment for an additional eight or nine-month training period before becoming a full-fledged Apache pilot.

The Apache attack helicopter is designed to hunt and destroy armoured vehicles.

It can operate in all weathers, day and night, and can detect, classify and prioritise up to 256 potential targets in seconds through its Fire Control Radar.

It carries a mix of weapons, including rockets, Hellfire missiles and a 30-millimeter chain gun.
There's sod all chance of him ever being exposed to any real risk, given only 24 graduate a year and helicopters are in short supply shouldn't someone else be doing this?

It is also rather accident prone. Mildly surprised they would let him do this. Not that they shouldn't.

Nazis in helicopters isn't exactly the best idea.

In all fairness at least Harry's actually been out there, that is until the media decided to point out where he was.

Poor Harry, he can't follow his dreams of serving his country because he was born into some archaic monarchical system that doesn't even matter.

This is the British Army. It's like the Boy Scouts, but with worse funding.

you know i don't know where people get this from, The British Army has some of the best kit in the world, people expect no one to die and no one to get injured and when they do they blame the kit shortages, its WAR people get injured and people die, so you either agree or disagree with the war in the first place but don't blame the kit.

RAGE. Agreed, though. In Canada, we can't even call ours an army. Its more of a "big brother program" for insurgents and refugees.

Just like his father, he will have millions of pounds of tax money spent training and protecting his ass. Then he will do fuck all. Like his father.

Then when its a state occasion Harry can wear his fancy uniform and all his medals........for doing fuck all.........just like his father. Then with all his military training he will develop a love of architecture and long walks in the country and commenting on shit he knows nothing about........just like his father.

I wonder how many intelligent "working class" people got pushed down the list for this Nazi saluting, money grabbing piss head.................

Hope he gets shot down and beheaded.........maybe save us all a pound or two.

Yes I am currently calculating this years tax returns.

I don't know where you got any of that from. The British Army is constantly having to make do with sub-par kit and broken equipment. And what gear we do have, like the Apaches, we have about 5 of them in the hope people will take us seriously. I'm sure Utah State Guard has more Apaches than we do, and all they do is blow up bank robbers.

well, good. i don't want massive military-industrial spending in order to finance illegal wars against atavistic tribesmen with AK47's and RPG's, anyway. nor do i want a Trident nuclear-defense system. the UK Army is under-financed and ill equipped? good. we don't have any wars to fight and there is no present threat to our homeland security. spend the billions on stuff that will provide a benefit for the citizens here and now, ta.

That kind of thinking has lost wars before.

My issue with it is more that we seem to be constantly involved with said tribesmen somewhere in the world, but then don't spend the money to keep the army running. If we sat at home all day and slashed our defense budget I'd be fine with that.

there are no wars to 'lose' and conscription is there for when there's urgent need. did the job for us in the great war.

you don't need giant, expensive standing armies in today's world. technology does half the work. jesus there are missile satellites now.

why should we spend billions of our annual budget on the vague-threat that there 'may' be a war sometime soon? we have all the contigencies in place already.
