Utah is set to execute a convicted killer by firing squad after a judge agreed Friday to the inmate's request, renewing a debate over what critics see as an antiquated, Old West-style of justice.

They generally have five men with guns, but two have blanks as to ease the conscious of the executioner.

Curious as to what y'all think.

Plus the guy requested it so whatever. Virginia still has the electric chair but it's only used if the inmate requests it.

A lot cheaper than lethal injection that's for sure. Let 'em do it. If that's the way he wants it, let it be done.

We actually just finished up the death penalty in my Great Moral Questions class (and finished the movie Dead Man Walking). Lethal injection really is not as pleasant as it's made out to be.

Edit: I believe hanging is still an acceptable request in some places too. Delaware I think it was?

Dead is dead. I fail to see the differences between the means of getting there. Whether it's hanging, electric chair, firing squad or a lifetime of incarceration, the end is the same. People get way too hung up on the means and attach ridiculous arbitrary morality to them.

Mmm.

I think I'd pick it over the chair/lethal injection if I had a choice. There's something I find uniquely terrifying about the methods used for lethal injection. Probably the cold, rather morbid precision involved. Seems terribly... Clinical.

Why do they use like 5 guys for a firing squad? Isn't one bullet enough? Maybe they don't always die with one bullet, so they need 5 to be safe, or 3 since two are blanks.

I think hanging is supposed to be very very quick when done properly (e.g. not saddam-style).

Guillotine wouldn't be bad either.

The head-crusher would suck though.

Most execution methods are done not because of humane reasons, but simply making the executioner and the audience have a more pleasant view. When chemical executions fuck up... It's pretty much giving someone a heart attack and suffocating them if you fuck up the dosages =/

Quick bullet to the head would be the cheapest and cleanest imo.
