Its going to depend on the horsetrading, and the remaining 13 undecided seats.

At this stage Labour (255) plus the Lib dems (54) = 309 which is more than the Conservatives (301), so although labour came second - by a long shot 29% vs 36% (due to the mess of electoral boundaries which favour Labour) - Labour and the Lib Dems could still form a coalition and block the Conservatives.

Nick Clegg (Lib Dem leader) has come out of it with a lot of credibility and so far is sticking to his commitment which is the party with the most seats should have first chance at forming the govt.

Gordon Brown has already sold his soul and offered the Lib Dems everything they want if they throw in with him.

Its now up to the Conservative leader to decide if he'll offer the Lib Dems enough to either stand aside (not form a labour coalition) or join a coalition with the Conservatives. Or he can throw the lot in the bin and wait another five years.

The best thing for the country at this stage would be a solid Conservative-Lib coalition = 355 seats. Electoral reform ought to happen, the electoral boundaries desperately need to be fixed, the country needs a steady govt for the next five years. Cameron should just bite it.

The second and third place parties ousting the first place party and forming a govt would be shit and unworkable. The Lib Dems, having come third, would be running the show.
Doesn't mean its not 50:50 to happen.

Given I agree with maybe a quarter of both Lib and Con policies, a coalition between the two would be better than either one party getting into power, IMO.

I don't know if the two parties ideas form up well enough to make a steady government. But then again, it is better than the alternative of a hung parliament or Gordon Brown still in power.

The conservatives are ideologically opposed to PR because they look back and see the big fat wins they've had over the last few centuries.

The sensible thing would be for a PR based fully elected Lords - with actual working Lords answerable to the people, and adjustment of the boundaries for the commons. Maybe the Lib Dems could swallow that.
But 'sensible' is in that sentence so you can forget it.

The conservatives are a bunch a private school fucknuts who want to steal from the poor and give to the rich, and frankly the idea of having that snotty nosed posh boy running the country makes me want to throw up.

And labour are communists who just want to sit in the sun drinking beer and smoking cigarettes someone else paid for.
These arguments go nowhere.

At least the country prefers the conservatives, which is why they got the majority of the vote.

I hope the Lib Dems do a deal with the Tories. I voted Lib Dems even though they didn't have much of a hope here, but thankfully Tories still won here. So in terms of my personal preferences, a Lib Dem sort of Coalition with the Tories would be some good shit bro

See the way I see it is the Lib Dems would remove some of the faggotry at least

Just walked in to the lounge and saw "Hung Parliament" on the screen. I managed to go most of the day without knowing. Not so much on purpose, just that I was at uni / doing other things.

Thing is Labour can't even form a Coalition with the Lib Dems because that still wouldn't give them a majority lulz. They'd need to bring in some others, then things just start to get very shaky. I hope Clegg accepts Camerons offer... just do it plox

It wouldn't be a minority government if they had Lib Dem support. They'd then have a majority and it would be a proper government with the Lib Dems. Because Brown hasn't resigned, Cameron can't go ahead and make a minority government. Otherwise he would have if Brown had resigned.

how is the american constitution any different? that has been amended too . . .

it's a bit more complicated when your country has been around since 1066 under various forms of rule and systems of government.

be smarmy when you've made it past the 500 year mark, yeah?
