Sometimes the ROE calls for everyone in an area to be hostile. ROE shifts from districts to districts under the discretion of commanders. War sucks we get it. Seriously, why the fuck did they bring kids along?

I think you fail to see the fact that the people you are arguing with don't feel remorse for the civilians killed. It was an accident, a terrible accident. It doesn't mean the pilots are 100% at fault.
What are the chances that people walking around a totally deserted street carrying weapons near an American convoy going to be "bodyguards" or innocent people just taking a stroll with their RPG's and AK47's in a "city", remember its not a warzone the Americans made it a warzone so its not really a warzone... right? The fact that innocent unmarked photographers are with them is the fault of the photographers, hanging around armed men in Baghdad is a bad idea, i think thats been explained a million times already.
I think they should have done something else when dealing with the van. Although it was under RoE, I see where you guys are coming from, they were not openly armed and it looked as though they were there to help the wounded man and should not have been killed on the spot. I don't have a solution for what should have happened, maybe fire warning shots, shoot out the engine, i dunno shooting them seemed like a poor moral choice.

Jeez this thread got a bit tetchy...
This thread was an abortion to start with.
We didn't have the Freedom of Information Act in the wild west. If we didn't care the Pentagon wouldn't have been compelled to release the video footage, photographs, and a complete report of the engagement. Just because I don't think your logic adds up in this situation it doesn't mean that Americans don't care about civilians. It's hard to take you serious when you make comments like that.Dilbert_X wrote:

EDIT: Recieved this message on youtube after a second go of posting several things that were mentioned here which I agreed with, such as the RPGS being found and that everthing was legal becasue it was under the ROE, including the van.
LOLWUTYou are a sick person to justify the slaughter of innocent people in Iraq. You need to wake up and ask your politicians to pull out of foreign countries where they have no business. Iraq posed no threat to USA or UK (Saddam was CIA's best buddy, Bush #1 gave him all kinds of weapons). Shame on humans like you.
Just imagine if the Chinese Military invaded your country and killed innocent people on the street, would you be justifying the killing?

If they had weapons they were the enemy plain and simple. When was the last time you saw a law abiding citizen walking around with an RPG?ruisleipa wrote:
I acknowledge these facts - that some people there had weapons, and there was no way of knowing if they were insurgents. That the pilots asked for permission and recieved it. And they shot at a car blatantly going to pick up wounded. And that the pilots laughed at the dead bodies. All these I acknowledge...it doesn't make it right, does it?lowing wrote:
I find the video of insurgents with RPG's and Ak-47s definitive. I call the fact the soliders correctly identified them and asked for permission to fire definitive. I call the fact that the soldiers had no idea (or way to know) that there was little kids in the unmarked car definitive. I also call your lack of acknowledgement of these facts definiitve.
And you still haven't explained why shotting at a car picking up wounded is acceptable. Would you also find it acceptable if someone attacked a US ambulance going to pick up wounded marines?
And you also haven't said anything about the relationship of RoE vis-a-vis the actual morality of the actions.
The shot at a car, not at an ambulance. Big difference that was explained in KM's article. I accept the pilots frame of mind. It is war, you must detach yourself from normalcy to see your mission through. Or is it your wish that soldiers should feel guilty and murderous for the tasks we set or them?
If you are looking for morality in a war zone you are completely lost from the realms of reality. War as a last resort goes against all society holds as moral and normal. IT s precisely why it is the last resort.
Roe's are established for that very reason, to govern what soldiers do. So they do not get it in their heads that they are god like and can do whatever they feel. There are laws for our soldiers to follow. It is a way of establishing morality and normalcy in an immoral and chaotic situation.
It is your attitude that war should never be fought. It is unrealistic. Wars have ended slavery, genicide, opression etc... Sometimes like it or not wars must be fought, and they must be fought to win.

And you're saying that all American soldiers are angels, and that any innocent Iraqi that gets killed is just a dumb Haji that got in the way, or a terrorist so it doesn't matter. Get over yourself, you people are as retarded as those who say dumb shit about soldiers being genocidal maniacs. The only reason I say this to you and not them is because more people are like you and there are less of them, and everyone is already telling them how they are anyway, and nobody is saying shit to you people, so I gotta do it.Cybargs wrote:

It is extremely sad that the journalists got killed when they were with the insurgents.
The journalists take a huge risk mingling amongst the insurgents and coalition troops.
Here is a list of all the journalists killed in Iraq.

Love is the answer
Also, I quite frankly am confused why people are so upset about the way the pilots are talking as well. Have they seen too many movies and expect the pilots to be quoting some sort of poetry for a life snuffed out as a candle or something stupid like that? Are they not aware that members of the military tend to swear like sailors?

Extended, without any captions.
1st picture: In guncam footage at around 4:10 cameraman shows up on the corner. Although I watched carefully many times it is hard to match the position of cameraman and photo you have posted. Another possibility is he is zooming at full capacity. Also in the footage participants sound like nearest friendly element is far away from the targets. Where did you find the photo?Kmarion wrote:
"it is not a marked ambulance, nor is such a vehicle on the "Protected Collateral Objects" listed in the Rules of Engagement.".. They were legit targets.Pug wrote:

disrespect has to do with posting shit one-sided logic on a daily basis. i think you do it with glee and purposeful. otherwise you'd actually see that I never said I liked the result, and you wouldn't bait me into an argument by being insulting. outrage? yeah, i'm pissed they shot up the van. but being pissed and understanding WHY are completely different.
But we have a vet on this forum that says they are legitimate targets. Argue with him, since we both don't know what the roe are.

The death of the journalist is tragic. However, they embedded themselves amongst a threat to Americans troops. They put themselves in the line of fire. It's a risk they voluntarily take. There is nothing unbelievable here.

This gif convinced me of the existence of RPG, but I still have suspects with AK.
Pilots recognized cameras as weapons. Bonus it seem to them like cameraman at the corner was engaging some friendlies. And I think thats why they hurried to shoot. However second shooting on van was total cruelty.

Actually the speed of darkness is faster ... have you noticed that when entering a room and turning on the light it always takes a few seconds, however if you turn the light off it gets dark instantly ...Flaming_Maniac wrote:
