Yup. Actually I forgot to mention a "minor" thingy, the festival main stage is on a grassy field and when a big enough crowd goes up n' down for some amount of time, the tremor starts.
I'm with Uzi on this one. The SPL (sound pressure level) is considerably stronger than people jumping around IMO. I'm sure it contributes to the effect though, so you can both get a cookie for being right
There's a thick layer of clay which starts to move when some thousands of ppl jump around. Proved by geologists. Nothing to do with speakers.
what if the gig isn't at a place with a substrata of clay?
Dunno about other similar events around other festivals or concerts. This is the only one I've experienced and read about.
I've been at a festival where I definitely felt the earth move, as did the dozen or so people with me. And no one was jumping at the time.

Good on them. Haven't liked much of their recent stuff but based on what they've been playing in support of Sabbath in the shows here in NZ they're performing their old industrial and thrash sort of music. Would be right for them to play any soft or pop rock to introduce Sabbath after all.

I only took one photo of how close to the stage I was when Shihad were setting up. So maybe 4 or 5 deep.
The mosh pit was brutal. But I was like 10 metres from Ozzy and Iommi.
But Ozzy was great - especially for his age. At one point in the show he turned to say thanks and introduce the audience to Geezer - but as soon as he started to speak the words just kind of left him. You suddenly remember, oh yeah, this guy struggles to talk, after he's been singing for 30 minutes straight.
Yeah, Chi Cheng. He was in a bad car wreck a few years ago and in a coma or something. But I believe this was the second concert they played since it happened. Lots of people with "<3 Chi" signs. Have to give them big props for playing so well and not really making a big deal of it so soon after it happened, I think he died 10 days before the event. True performers.Uzique The Lesser wrote:

i always said to my friends (who are still into metal and heavy music much more than i) that deftones are properly one of the better bands to hang around from that era. a lot of stinkers from that time, too, and they've definitely emerged as one of the keepers.

i don't listen to that much metal anymore, though, i grew up. you can't always be raging against the machine, man. i find mosh-pits to be excruciating rituals for the insecure. i like to enjoy my music. too much about metal is all image, or machismo bullshit. an identity parade and a social tribe for people to 'fit into', more than any serious appreciation of music. plus i dunno why, but i find as i get older i listen to a lot less... 'lyrical' music. i don't like the constant tugging at your empathy that rock-music employs. every song about the way some dude is feeling, or his ex-girlfriend, or his life, or something. i dunno why but i've got really bored with that sort of music. i guess i don't feel angry enough inside.
