Agreed.  I wouldn't do anything thing like those guys, but I can see why the did it.  I don't condone it.

Honestly for all I know it could be D's doing it to themselves.  They aren't above it.

And there were a lot of unhappy people after W. got his second term and a lot of disbelief about the direction of the country then too. And I believe the retort from the right was "ha ha ha." I wonder if the far right will be scratching their heads in disbelief this fall. Becuase going back to my comment about the short news cycle and the short term memory of people, I wonder what people will be thinking about come November. Emotions are high now... but that's a long way from now.

Personally we need to get back to where the two parties split the executive and legislative branches. Its a complete disaster to have one party in control of both, but I guess the fact that the GOP had complete conrol its not unexpected to have the Dems with complete control in an ebb and flow kind of way... but its is unfortunate. Thankfully the Dems don't have the time left before November to pass cap and trade.

There is a lot more to it but the basic premise is that with the Townshend Acts, Parliament became the supreme arbiter in the UK rather than the King. With the King in charge the colonists felt that they had representation because they could just send someone to speak to him at court. With Parliament they had no real way of addressing grievances etc. The colonists also wanted to be free of the debt they had accumulated etc. There were myriad reasons why the American Revolution occurred but the core principles revolved around representative taxation and the freedom to govern oneself and be free of what we today would call 'nanny statism'.
We broke off because we were independent and immature like an adolescent and there was enough distance from the motherland to afford us the ability to do so. We wanted to move further west, England wisely didn't want to piss off the natives any more than we already had. They spend the money fighting a war against the natives on our behalf, and then when they expected us to help pay for it we balked. That was the "debt" they accumulated. Taxes weren't at unreasonable levels, it's common knowledge that taxes in the states were drastically less than taxes in the motherland. Many of the product taxes imposed were really just the enforcement of previous taxes to an equal or lesser degree.

Taxation without representation was a rallying cry for the unreasonably angry masses, nothing more. Nobody spills blood over minor and ultimately utterly ineffective representation.

Hmmm, I thought it had to with getting rid of colonial control and instituting self government by and for the benefit of the people... I didn't realize that the British Empire sent over a super nanny to control our minds. Anyway nice historical twist to try to deny the fact that a duly elected government passing a law is an exercise of self government by and for the people. It is an exercise of self government whether you agree with the law or not.

Perhaps the biggest gripe that people are having is the simple fact that elections come periodically and that we don't have direct government of the people. And that when they don't get their way they want to substitute the democratic process for mob rule and polls. Like I said before, we will just have to wait until November because that's the next election and that's the next time that people are empowered by the constitution to make their opinions matter and that's how our democracy is designed... like or not. The rest is just sour grapes. and the talk of revolution is just plain stupid... about as dumb as the talk of Texas sucession in response to PBO being elected... it would actually be hysterical is it weren't so sad.

And for those who are saying well these people committing these crimes aren't GOP or tea party members... well you are probably right but its also probably irrelevant as far a public opinion is concerned when you read about crap like this Break their windows If these people think they are patriots then they are delusional.

I suppose you have a point. I did say 'some' however, I'm fully aware it's not a common opinion that terrorising elected officials into changing their minds is a good thing.

You speak as if this has never happen before with any other issue. People in public office get such threats all the time. All the democrats are doing is trying to capitalize on these stories.  I can not defend their actions however.

Right, it is not about health care. It is about our nation adopting something we spent generations fighting and dying for; socialism.

It's about a cleptocracy (sp), you know, a system wherein you are getting ripped off every time you turn around.
I don't recall " tea-baggers " cutting heads off and suicide bombing markets numbnuts, and if you want to have a reasonable debate why demean those concerned with a government going bankrupt by associating the movement with rubbing ones nutsack on a victims face?

New York riots during the civil war was bad too lels, but they had more legit reasons to be pissed.

Tea baggers, what bunch of dumb fucking hicks.
Sir, whilst normally I think you are a stand up fellow, in this case you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

Its amazing that a bunch of people crying patriotism, which is a call for bravery, are in fact actually just afraid of the unknown. IMO these people aren't brave patriots... they are people scared of the unknown who have stampeded like cattle.

I don't think I've heard from one person whose said I've lived in a place where there is NHS or some equivalent and then went on to say they hated it. What was passed might be good, it might be bad, but its definitely nothing to fear... we need to just wait and see. But I guess that would require patience from a 90 minute news cycle, being viewed by people with the attnetion span of someone suffering from attention defecit disorder and having a memory only slighly longer than the three second memory of a goldfish. So may be its an act of futility to ask some people to wait for the glue to dry when all they want to do is sniff it.

On another point, one difference between a left fringe socialist and a communist is the willingness to committ violent acts to enforce their policy... I know that's not the real difference... but its sufficient to get me to the next point that being that this is starting to look like the right fringe are putting on their brown shirts and what we are seeing is similar to Kristallnacht, the "Night of Broken Glass." Let's just hope we don't start seeing actual brown shirts or black shirts. Point is that if you flame controversy, the moderates will get turn off and the moronic radicals will start acting up. Their actions have no place in a democracy. They need Find these assholes and convict them like the felons that they are.
Good points!

For those that have even a small understanding of American history, those two items are what set off the original American Revolution and I feel strongly that they are about to set off the second revolution.

There apparently are a lot of insane people here....

As eleven said, we're starting to move into the same sectarian direction as Third World Islamic societies.  At least the people in those countries have the excuses of true desperation and a lack of education.

To behave this way in a highly prosperous and supposedly culturally advanced society is just ridiculous.

Granted, I'm seriously starting to doubt our actual "advanced" status.  We're starting to look like the short bus kids of the West.
