It'll probably only work on new sales, have a special code you have to put in. They've made the sale and got the money. Used copies won't make them any money, and won't cost them anything if whoever buys it can't activate it.
Isn't steam out on the PS3?

They are just going to link up the unique ID of the game to your PSN account and then use that to verify you purchased the game...

I thought the Steam aspect was just an in-game thing for Portal 2. I don't think there's a little application or anything. Or at least I haven't seen one.

Hmm, that's what I actually assumed from all what I read over the last months: a Steam application for the PS3.
Would be a bit awkward though, as Steam would essentially be a direct competitor to the PSN store in regards of DLC and other purchasable stuff.

Although, having Steam games parallel on the PC, Mac and PS3, but not on the Xbox, might have inspired Sony to give Valve some special treatment.

I think I remember a press-conference shot from Valve/Sony where the Playstation menu had a steam Icon...

It could have been a shoop for symbolism by valve tho'

From what I can tell, the Steam part is just part of the game. They've not said that Steam is going to be on the PS3, just that Portal 2 will have Steamworks features.

i really honestly don't understand why male gamers give a fuck about what a female character looks like

the obsession and fetishisation of female characters in games like tomb raider, half life 2 and portal is really fucking sad

it's like the worst expression of the gamer-geek stereotype. go get laid and stop caring about such silly shit.

Yeah because being glad the new character doesn't look like some weird zombie alien thing, like Chell did in Portal 1, is obsession and fetishisation.

you know that's not specifically what i'm talking about, though. it's the focus of a male-dominated demographic on the aesthetic and appearance of female, virtual, fake, non-existent characters. you cannot deny that it happens. there are always discussions about female characters in games as if they're somehow more than just pixels on a screen- then there's all the idolising and fantasising by sad, lost little men. look at the HL2 cinematic mod for fuck's sake: developers actually spent their time and effort in sculpting about 5 different optional versions of a big-titted alyx. it's retarded. i could care less what a character looks like in a game; wholly inconsequential.

I agree the 'alternate alyx' models (and updated models in general) ruined that mod. It could've been a must-have graphical update but instead it just felt juvenile.

And yes I agree with all of what you said there, but I don't think it applies to that Portal picture really. I say it's an improvement not because I want to play as a supermodel, but because the original Chell was just a bit creepy. I also think the new outfit is cool.

a vest and some overalls are 'cool'? seems a bit trivial and silly to me but whatever entertains you from day-to-day, eh.

Well yeah.

The original concept had her in a rather geeky looking (especially the hat) suit that looked very sciencey.

https://www.videogamesblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/portal-2-chell-redesign-artwork.jpg

But the new one is her old overalls unzipped and tied around her waist so they're not in the way and she looks ready to kick ass.

Borealis HELLO!

It's more likely you go past or see it's old dock where it's clearly missing (e.g. land-lines hanging cut & such)

This.

Besides, Portal was first-person. Chell was probably on drugs in Portal 1, anyway.

Good to see that Portal hasn't lost its humour.

I'm officially not watching any in-game footage from now on. The original' gameplay mechanic' videos and the trailers are all I want to know before I play it.
