There's been a solid week of fixes and from the looks of the changelists, all that stuff has been taken care of now so you can join the beta to see whats new.

"people in ny have a general idea of how to drive. one of the pedals goes forward the other one prevents you from dying"
Here's another random new feature:
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Spidery_Yoda/wishlist
You can add games to a 'wishlist' so.. well I dunno. So you can keep track of upcoming games I guess, and so you can hint to friends what you'd like to get as a spontaneous gift.
Spoiler (highlight to read):
By the way it's my birthday on Tuesday.

Except Amazon's a different community and a slightly different market. A few weeks ago I bought Serious Sam HD on Steam for one of my online buddies when it was on sale and was playing coop within the hour.Uzique wrote:

A Steam wishlist would also help people keep track of games they may only be peripherally interested in without having to launch an external web browser and access their 'Amazon' account.
i meant in regards to trying to explain the 'use' and purpose of a wishlist. it almost seemed like he didnt understand the idea - "well i dunno".
the wishlist feature on amazon sums up pretty much exactly what it's supposed to be used for.

I know its a useful addition, its just that i've never used a wishlist before since I don't buy a lot of stuff. So yeah I don't really know all the applications for it.
I use that feature to earmark stuff for later consideration when I don't feel like splurging on boxes of books and movies. If Steam allows them to be shared with other users, it would be a pretty cool form of gift exchange over long distances.Spidery_Yoda wrote:

I like the new interface.
The only issue I had so far was, that it once reverted to the old UI after a restart and I had to reactivate it again.
The only feature I'm missing so far:
When I open the new in-game interface, I can't open the pop-up for activation keys anywhere (BFBC2 in that case).
I had to Alt-Tab to the real Steam window.

Ok in case anybody has trouble, Steam has basically stopped working. If you're in the beta and try and start Steam up it just says "Steam is temporarily unavailable, please try again later".
To get it running again, go to Run, and start Steam with:
"C:\Program Files\steam\steam.exe" -clearbeta
It'll remove the new beta and Steam will start up fine.

Yeah Lucien says his is fine too. Mine was fine because i'd left it on overnight, but when I restarted it an hour or so ago it just didn't work. Thought i'd pass on the fix just in case.
Mine's working also. Maybe Valve fixed it already.
Nope, I've not used the fix (not needed steam yet) and mine still doesn't work.Doctor Strangelove wrote:

Mine froze when I clicked on the update news pop-up and made strange bell sounds whenever I tried to click anywhere.
After a restart it worked fine again.

I started without the Beta UI. I then re-participated, and now I have to download MW2 again. Shoulda seen that coming, since I had to last time.
But who plays MW2 anymore anyway
True, true.
