Hello BF2s!

This is a question that goes out to anyone who lives there or knows about it. The situation is that about 10 of my friends are going to Amsterdam in march for a friends 18th birthday. By that point everyone that is going will be 18...except me

my question is how strict is the age limit in the coffee shops and clubs. Do you think i would be able to get away with fake ID if my age comes into question? So basically, is it worth me going?

I wouldn't be surprised if the legal age for that in Holland is 17.

Coffee shops are very strict, they won't let you in without an ID. Clubs, hookers, whatever else you're fine.

does it have to be a specific form of ID such as a passport or driving license or will it not matter as long as i have something that says im 18 and looks legit?

I remember being in Amsterdam when I was 18 on occassions when I forgot my ID I was usually ok.

(although that was 10 years ago)

Legal drinking age in Holland is 16.

(Unless it changed since I lived there/last visited)

I was never asked for ID when I got alcohol, and I was 17 at the time.
..and I look(ed) young for my age.

Nah, they're really clamping down on it, unless your hair is greying you're going to get ID'd.

@Personah; anything legit looking should be fine (I got refused the sale of a bottle of wine in Tesco's because they didn't like my Dutch residence permit - I'm 21 FFS, it's not like there was much question that I was over 18)

Mek, you could have a beard like Bin Laden and they still would ID you in coffeeshops. Just get your mates to buy you pot, and then smoke it somewhere else. Unless you get incredibly lucky (and by that I mean you have more chance of getting a free handjob) you will need ID to get into the coffeeshops.

I've been to the Dam five times and have NEVER been asked for ID ANYWHERE except once going into a nightclub. Coffeeshops? Nah, unless you obviously look like a twelve-year old. Maybe you guys have all been going to the touristy coffee shops...try finding a local one they might not care so much?

I really can't remember ever getting carded at a coffee shop... dude, just go and sit in the back and grab a table and let your mates get your tea/coffee and the joint(s).

Honestly, I would chance it. Worst comes to worst, you get your friends to get the joints and then you guys go to the huge central park that borders the tourist part of the city at the very south. It's not allowed to smoke on the streets, but I never saw a single cop outside there during the day. It was rather cold outside, but nonetheless... you should be fine.
