get a media player and external harddrive. download HD movies online, transfer them to the external harddrive, connect it to the media player then connect that to the lcd tv and your good to go.

WD Live if you're going this route

Otherwise, go with the BluRay route.  Far better picture, audio, special features.  Plus most BluRays nowadays come with a DVD if you want to play it on your computer or transfer it to ipod, etc easily

If your TV isn't 1) 32" or more and 2) 1080p capable, it's pointless to get a Blu-Ray player.

If it is, by all means go for it.

Well when I bought mine PS3 was cheaper than a home cinema BluRay player. You have a point though, BluRay disk players can be had for less than 80€. Twas just a recommendation.

I remember when DVD-R players first came out in '03 or '04. They were going anywhere from $600-1200. Now its like what, $50?

Yeah if you touch them they disintegrate No they're just as fragile as regular disks AFAIK, just don't scratch them, I don't see why you would anyway.

I saw two movies in parallel at this electronics store once. It was 2 giant flat screens playing the same movie but one in blue ray and the other in regular DVD. You couldn't tell the difference all the time (Mostly in dark scenes) but once it's bright it's amazing.

Blue ray is t3h future dudes ! Just a shame I have like 100+ DVDs...

I don't remember where my old X-Files vhs tapes are that I bought. Might have tossed them when I moved...
