iirc the glide ratio of a shuttle ranges from ~1 to ~4, now that's pretty much like a monstrous brick with wings

Fighter jets are a lot shitter than passenger jets as well, but they have a lot more thrust, so they act more like rockets with stabilizers than actual planes.

Considering that the shuttle goes down with hypersonic/supersonic speed and the landingspeed is really high, there's no real need for a good glide ratio

There are stories of guys who finished first in UPT and picked helos. They got blackballed by the rated community, since historically, helos go to the bottom of the class. Not really sure why, since the skill required to fly a helo is higher than required for fixed wing.

Also, I can't see much in this thread that shows you know much about this. All the info you've gotten from is either from Wikipedia or can be retrieved from the lovely Jane's Fighter Jets books. I also highly doubt you have the latter (I have) because it costs $800.
