I've spent 20 years in 'gun culture', in my experience those people who most want to carry a loaded gun are those least suited to do so. Its the people outside the culture who want to get their hands on a gun and strut around looking hard who are generally the problem. If you spend much time in gun culture you'll find that this really isn't the mentality.
Like I said, if the average responsible person wants a CCW and to go through the appropriate background checks, training etc to defend themselves and their family - where its legal - then fine.
If someone wants to 'open carry' just because they can - without the training or checks - to prove a point to big govt with an AR15 over their shoulder at a political rally, or so they can get involved in a convenience store shootout then they're fruitcakes IMO.

Fuck Israel
I've been reading up on open carry (and ccw) laws for a few months now. as ATG mentioned, check out opencarry.org for more information. The forum is usually a pretty good read if you click the recent topics button. I can empathize with both pro and con. some public people who may not be "into" guns get a little uptight about people carrying. then you have the people who carry (even ccw) for safety, or because its legal and they can. then there are some of those people who are over the top and trying to prove a point. they are carrying their gun +3 mags, and multiple digital audio or video recorders and pushing the limit trying to get stopped and create an incident where they can cry about how they were a victim of rights violations and then post to youtube.
So it's not a person's right to feel safe? What the fuck does a 6 year old kid think when he sees one of his friend's daddy carry a weapon? It's not the point of rights either, it's simple logic to avoid causing hurt unnecessarily to others.DBBrinson1 wrote:
By your logic -their ignorance of the law should supersede another's rights. Yea... Great logic there.Hakei wrote:
And the kids/parents who see the guns and are ignorant to the law? Tough shit? Great logic, you're following the law but at the same time hurting those around you.
Those who open carry should stop hiding behind the law as a reason to look big a macho with a gun.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
aw, were their poor little feelings hurt? awww <3
if people weren't gullible petrified sheep that jumped at their own shadow, they wouldn't be afraid of open carry to begin with
so.... people who open carry shouldn't because you don't like it? maybe they just feel like it?

the 6 year old would probably think it was neat, unless the kids parents taught him that guns are evil maniacal baby killing murder machines, that will kill him and eat his soul if he comes within 10 feet of itHakei wrote:

God forbid someone be 'scared' at some point in their life. Expressing a human emotion in response to an object that is purely designed to kill being paraded in your proximity? HOW DARE YOU.krazed wrote:

The later part of your post adds nothing to what's being said and the former part is a problem in itself. It sends a message that having dangerous weapons on you is not a big deal. It is.krazed wrote:

That doesn't respond to or discredit what I said in any way, shape or form. The statement by itself without the quotes would be fine but nothing you said applies to the quote.krazed wrote:

And the two points you made are non sequitur anyway. My opinion of it being "wrong/evil/bad" is what makes it "wrong/evil/bad". Don't even bother arguing that point either, subjective debates are so 2008.

honestly some of you people remind me of women you see in bad cartoons
you know the ones that jump on a chair and squeal when they see a mouse?
my windows are covered due to migraines
my BMI is 21
i HATE having hair on my face, so i shave every morning
what does that have to do with anything?

Show where the Constitution guarantees the "feel safe" right. Oh wait... It's the Second Amendment. I really don't give a flying fuck what any six year old other than my son thinks -and my son respects firearms really doesn't give it a second notice.Hakei wrote:

HOW DARE? Please. God forbid something else come along that day and give them nightmares far beyond what merely seeing a gun in a holster would do to them... You lack of imagination is reality. Life happens.Hakei wrote:

First. A gun is not a dangerous weapon. It is a tool. Like all tools, if misused consequences can be disasterious.wrote:

Second. Carrying is as "big deal" as you make it. Actually it is a responsibility. Many States require a permit to do so.
Third. It is not the person carrying the gun's responsibility to stop and teach responsible gun safty to every nutters' kid that wets his pant when he sees a gun. How did you put it? Harden the fuck up.
Orly? Such as? I guess you are weighing the feeling of the six year old pretty heavy here.wrote:

O wait you can't. Fail argument is fail.
Also loz at "a gun isnt a dangerous weapon". Wrong, that is exactly what it is.
Definitions of gun on the Web:
* a weapon that discharges a missile at high velocity (especially from a metal tube or barrel)

Props to the police officer for acting within the letter and not being a prick.
I support this movement for a variety of reasons. Crime deterrent, political statement, et. al.
I will make sure I do not have any warrants before I give this a go.

After doing some research, im very suprised.

15 more years! 15 more years!
Once again, this isn't to do with what the law regards as right/wrong, it's what you as a human should understand is right/wrong. So where do we draw the line? Am I not supposed to get scared if 10 bandanna wearing black men board the train with pieces? They're just law abiding citizens too? Yeah?DBBrinson1 wrote:

Being scared of a gun is not an illogical fear. The weapon is DESIGNED to kill, that is the purpose of it. Police officers? zZz, what a terrible chestnut to crack. From a VERY young age kids are taught that these people dedicate their lives to protecting others. Police officers are usually always in uniform and easily noticeable from any citizen. Ergo, children understand that these people are there to protect them.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
Unfortunately people are the weak link in this, as people on the whole are stupid. Hence, i don't like the idea of guns on the street.

Look at the statistics I posted earlier. A safer society is an armed one. Criminals get guns regardless. Hell, we had a serial killer that made his own.FatherTed wrote:

would you be less scared if you couldn't see their guns? do you carry a bucket of sand around with you so you can shove your head in it on the go?Hakei wrote:

but see here's the thing about criminals......
they break the law. it's kind of their job.
i don't support unlicensed open/concealed carry, simply based on how many ignorant assholes are out there who would do it for the wrong reasons
most police officers(afaik) carry concealed while not in uniformHakei wrote:

The simple FACT is that as a gun owner you are a minority and have no right to impose fear on the public. Your right to carry a gun in full view means people have no way of knowing if that is legal or not and therefore no idea if they need to do something to protect themselves from you. Fear breeds fear.DBBrinson1 wrote:

If guns are legal in a country i have no issue with concealed carry, but there is NO point in having open carry, it merely spreads panic and fear.
