BF2S Forums Family tress are cool - my great great grandfather was in WW1

I can trace my mum's side of the family back to a convict on the First Fleet.


But if the cops ask..

My grandad drove a Sherman in Africa during WWII for the U.S. Army, and his father was Johann Tilert, an immigrant from Russian ruled Lithuania.  My last name originally had two L's in it, which means it originated from Germany, but stupid immigration officers messed it up.  Him and his brother both immigrated and his brother kept the two L's so there are Tilerts and Tillerts alike all over Connecticut and upstate New York.

Mothers side: Ancestors were a Royal Marine and Teacher who came over on the first fleet (Not convicts). My Grandfather (on this side) fought in Korea, His father fought in WWI... Don't know much more than that.

Fathers side: Emigrated to Australia from Germany in the early 1930's due to Hitler coming to power. My grandfather then went on to fight in the Royal Australian Air Force in the pacific theatre. He flew a Beaufighter, was a Pilot Officer and received many medals (even though he enlisted when he was 16.. they didn't really mind lol)... Don't know any further back than that, haven't really searched. From what I'm told, my family were catholic aristocrats (in Germany) and therefore were practically the complete opposite of Hitler.

k true story, one of my dads uncles or so on (that age bracket) shot 4 coppers dead in a pub, then the ira shipped him out to america to escape a firing squad.

my grans (mums side) husband (rip) was on the malta convoys in WWII, and going back very far on my dads side we're traceable to old irish royalty (chieftan really) lineage.

Do you know the year? Cause it would really suck to be Irish in America for the most part.

the RA boy would have been early 1920s id imagine. familys pretty much hush hush about it
