So my friend works security at Mall of America and is in a documentary on TLC this Thursday:

"An action-packed day in the life of the Mall of America, as seen through the eyes of the men and women assigned to guard its stores and shoppers: the mall cops. From protecting celebs to busting shoplifters, there's no job too big for the mall cops."

Just wondering what you all think of security at malls in general, and specifically the MOA.

There is no security presence at Malls in NZ, at least not the ones arond here.

Mall cops, meh. Most seem to be in worse health than a real cop. I don't think they have guns. I'm not even sure about their arrest powers.

Can't arrest you, just ask you to leave or they'll call the real police. But if you are stabbing someone to death they can use force, but than again anyone can.

when i first moved here (near Salt Lake Utah) the rent-a-fuckin-cop 'escorted' me from the mall because i had a Raiders baseball cap. Fucking bronco fan then proceeded to tell me i was sportin "gang" colors. asshole bronco fans . . .

The only security we get at the local 'mall' is random check ups after everything is closed (ie after midnight).

I use to be a mall cop. It was an easy job working 3rd shift while going to school during the day. I had time to study or work on various projects.
From the mall cops that I have worked with, most of them fell into these categories:

The guys who are waiting to become police officers. They are usually the most anal and wannabe hard asses. They are the ones who will give you a hard time if you are loitering inside the mall.
Already a police officers but working at the mall for 2nd income. They are cool and some times pokes fun of the wannabes.
Old and ready to retire or should be.
Guys who got too comfortable at the job and been doing it for over ten years. These guys whine and complain but have no serious bark.
Guys who are getting out of the military. One of the fastest, easiest jobs to get once you are out of the service. Most of these guys are pretty cool and had plenty of stories.

The one thing I have learned as being a mall cop is people should learn to flush the god damn toilets! I had to inspect eash stall and some of the stuff I have seen is disgusting
