thats because, as you said, you dont know anything about fighting. Most of the trained fighters I know are the last to throw a punch. And also... most of the dudes I have seen that get in your face like that are just talking to impress their friends, and not really wanting a fight. I remember watching two guys that were talkers like that standing face to face for about 20mins or so, then I went and ate, came back, and they were still face to face, no punches thrown.
