I'm not missing your point at all. Borderlands has flying enemies, masked enemies, masked enemy midgets, soldiers, dogs, giant crabs and flying critters.

My point is that even with different stats here and there and a couple amusing bosses, there isn't much of a difference between them for it. Diablo 2 had zombies, vampires, imps, minotaurs, ghosts, lightning-shooting ghosts, angry dead guys on stakes, balrogs, fire-throwing imps, giant meaty club-wielding things like that unrealistic ogre on 300, corrupted lady archers and spearwomen, skeletons, bow skeletons, skeleton wizards, zombies that spew poisonous gas when they die, mummies that resurrect zombies, pygmies, pygmy shamans, weird amphibian things, weird tree things, a whole corrupted human religion, swarms of small bugs, maggots, maggot eggs, giant maggots, giant mosquitoes, giant electric beetles, monsters that create monsters, revive dead monsters, ride other monsters and several unique bosses that look nothing like the other monsters. I'm sure I missed a few.

It also has three difficulty levels and enemy modifiers that can actually cause you to make contact with a particularly deadly, powerfully-rolled boss balrog in hell difficulty or with a group of bosses with a particular combination of auras that make them and their gangs surprising and lethal. We also get more character classes with more possible skill builds, especially with the new(ish) patched-in synergy system.

And how old is that game? So yes, I agree with the reviewers about Borderland's cloned monsters. It didn't make it any less fun while I was playing coop, or diminish the humor of the claptraps. I'm just not tempted to return to it like I have done with Diablo 2 on numerous occasions. There wasn't quite the variety I'd come to expect from interviews, and every attempted yank at the udders of my wallet every time a booster pack comes out only aggravates me.

It also has three difficulty levels and enemy modifiers that can actually make contact with something as simple as a powerfully-rolled boss balrog in hell difficulty or a group of bosses with a particular combination of auras surprising and almost instantly lethal. We also get more character classes with more possible skill builds, especially with the new(ish) patched-in synergy system.

gj listing only the enemy types on Borderlands and listing every enemy from D2

But I get your point, but please do remember that Borderlands is an FPS and not a hardcore adventure RPG like Diablo II

Also: D2 is already one of those games that will be remembered in gaming history, where Borderlands is likely to be forgotten in a few years unless they expand the franchise...

That's pretty much it in short. But I am happy for the people who still play that they're actually boosting level cap for free.

Doom 2 had zombies, shotgun zombies, chaingun zombies, fireball imps, giant mouth demons, invisible giant mouth demons, mini cyborg spider brain demons with plasma rifles, the rocket-launching cyberdemon, the giant cyborg spider brain demon with a chaingun, archviles that could blast you into the air and revive other monsters, the dual fireball gun-wielding mancubus, floating electric ball cacodemons, flying skull lost souls, flying pain elementals that shot lost souls at you, classic horned demons that shoot green shit, their little brothers, Nazis on two secret levels, skeletons that either punch your face in or shoot space marine-seeking missiles, a last boss that shot blocks that generated random monsters with John Romero's severed head (which you could see if you went into no-clipping mode and went behind the giant goat skull texture), poisonous slime, poisonous blood, magma, teleporters, crushing ceilings, a host of custom maps and mods and the iconic BFG 9000 which would kick the ass of any weapon you get in Borderlands.

Doom was an FPS with no RPG element.
doom 2 is so old tho.. whats a good one to replace that now?

That was more to make a point than anything.

Borderlands and the DLC, if you find them on a big steam sale, are still worth a playthrough if you've got buddies. Otherwise, the closest matches I can think of at the moment are titles in the Serious Sam series, which is a blast. New HD versions of 'SS: First Encounter' and 'SS: Second Encounter' are on Steam for cheap. Both are available in a pack for $30. Looking forward to the Steam release of SS2, if they're planning it.

Well, Diablo plays in a fantasy world and Doom has an invasion of fantasy demons from hell.
That of course makes it rateher easy to populate the world with shit-loads of different enemy types.

Borderlands on the other hand is a sci-fi, wasteland scenario on an alien planet, with ex-convict-ex-mineworkers and a few alien species.
This would make a diversified population of enemies look out of place.

Who would, for example, expect a genetically engineered hippopotamus with psy-powers and laser cannon mounted on it's skull in the middle of the desert on planet Pandora?

I didn't like the new Serious Sams

Then again I didn't exactly "love" the first ones.. they just feel pretty pointless and dull....

The new ones are pretty much identical to the first ones, except with better graphics and network functionality. So if you play one, you might as well play the HD release. I agree with pointless (what video game has a point?) but dull is a matter of perspective. SS throws both quantity and quality at you. Who couldn't love him whistling the theme from Indiana Jones as a giant boulder rolls by? The thing can be pretty overwhelming with large and dangerous combinations of enemies (I'm looking at you, alien buffalo and harpy things).

Just as Borderlands requires coop to be truly worthwhile, SS does as well, unless you're trying to solo highest difficulty.

How about those dev fucks start fixing the lag issues. Playing hunter makes no sense if you´re not the host.

I really haven't gotten into playing coop with anyone but a close-by friend...

The lag ruins it completely

I'd play again in coop if I could locate my saved characters. Unless it was from the very start.
