You can buy stuff to spray on your number plate that when the camera flashes on it, it just shines, so you can't see any numbers or anything.

It only works if the flash is head on.
Here they take multiple pictures at different times and at different angles so that they get one of you (the driver) and your front/rear plate. On most up to date intersections, the spray won't work.
