ive been using a logitech performance mouse mx on 2 different computers for about 2 years now and literally never had a problem, theyre fantastic. just got a logitech wireless keyboard as well and its never been an issue either
that feel when:

e: Why bother creating fancy cable routing chutes when you provide NO ROOM BETWEEN THE CHASSIS PLATE AND THE FUCKING FRAME?! The HAF bulges out away from the tray side to make room for possibly bulky CPU heatsinks, but is pretty much flush to everything else once you get past that and start going towards the front of the PC. I love this case, but it could've been better thought out.

I swear I'll install Linux before I ever buy another Microsoft OS, and will probably break that promise when I build a new PC in 201x. Anyway, Windows 7 is nice, but seriously? It skipped over four jpeg files on the desktop because they had long filenames that SCARED WINDOWS.pirana6 wrote:

There's a registry setting to remove the file name character limit I think. The only reason it still does it is like that is for legacy OS compatibility with file names

for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.
Whatever the case may be, I think I've narrowed it down. Power supply tests good and the CD/storage drives are seen on any controller (so I don't think it's the SATA controllers), so I'm guessing that the SSD may just be one of those ones that bites it after a year.
It was overdue for a Windows 7 installation, so I ran one and watched it crash after 15 minutes while testing file copy from the SSD to storage. My last option will be to go to the windows install ramdrive (X:>) and run the "diskpart, listdisk, select disc #, detaildisk, clean all" routine and reinstall once more. In fact, I should've done that in the first place (supposed to help fix SSD problems), but there were still some files I wanted.
If the thing continues to have issues, I'll give it a shot. If it still doesn't work, I'm gonna be in the market for a new drive. At the moment, I'm considering the Samsung 830 series, which I've heard good things about in regards to manufacturing quality. 256GB for $250, 512GB for $550. The 128GB is $100, but if I'm going to replace my 128GB SSD, I'm going to make it an upgrade so I'm not constantly stuck wrestling with under 20GB of free space once all my applications are installed.
Now...time to reboot and see if it gives me an endless flashing underscore again. FUN!
The files in question were apparently pics off the net assigned such extremely long filenames that Windows doesn't even know how to rename them. Either that or they're corrupt and Windows can't figure it out.

I swear I can feel waves of amazement radiate from my desktop as Internet Explorer ecstatically realizes that it's actually being used.
e: REALLY thought I had it for a moment, but it reset while Windows 7 was running updates (might as well while I'm testing write). I'll give reinstallation a shot tomorrow morning after completely resetting the drive. I'm pretty sure it's the drive now, but I don't want to buy anything until I'm positive it's irreparable.
I've reset and worked over my BIOS settings. It's not up-to-date, but it was working fine until now. One thing I have noticed is that when Windows does crash out into a reset and won't restart due to the drive not being found, a cold boot will knock sense into it. 90% of the time.
Still not anything I want to bother reloading work/game apps onto, though.

So I flattened the drive from the W7 install command prompt and still had problems getting it to install.
Right, so I remembered one of the things I had to do to get a stable installation in the first place was remove half of my 16GB RAM, install windows from a slower SATA controller, then shut down, reinstall the remaining RAM and move the drive to the high-speed controller. Rolling through the massive Windows 7 update. I'll leave it alone and see if it crashes. Still going to run memtest later today, but I'm fairly certain it's not the problem.
e: OK recrash. Memtest time, though I'm not expecting to find anything.
peace

The most irritating issue is that my cables are as flush to the frame as I can get them without bundling them up and not using the cable routing system in the first place. When I put the side cover on, it's still a tight fit. Part of it has to do with the fact that I'm wrestling with plugs on leads. Overall, they could've given us a bit more room back there...and...why do you have two power supplies?FFLink wrote:

Yeah I've run into that but they weren't from teh intorwebz they were from some Mac system on an external drive. How would windows even allow you to download them if they were too long?unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Good news, everyone! Memtest brought back 10 errors from 15 hours of grinding. Before I try anything else, I'm going to crank the RAM back to below-spec at 1100 and see what happens. G.Skill, I am disappoint.
Not to say it doesn't mean that the SSD hasn't soft-failed, just that the RAM/MB are now more suspect than before.
---
Then again, I've just installed Netscape Navigator 9 for lols. It even has a 'MERICA header.

OK, short summary:
EDIT:
I'll update with minutiae here.
1) I got lucky.
2) DIMMs 1 or 3 or both are bad.
3) Slots A1 or B1 or both are bad.
Onto the following:
1) I'm going to play around for the remainder of the afternoon to see if it crashes.
2) Overnight, I'll memtest DIMMs 1 and 3 in slots A2 and B2. If there are errors by the time I wake up, I'll run each for a few hours in slot A2 (as recommended by the manual for single-DIMM setups). If there are no errors, I'm going to assume that one or both of the remaining slots are bad and see if I can memtest that.
If it turns out that I am indeed stuck using two DIMMs to keep it running stable, I suppose I'll satisfied. 8GB is still better than any previous computer I've ever owned. I'll gladly take the remaining two DIMMs (if they work) and stick them in another DDR3 machine. WAY better than having to replace the motherboard.
I don't do this for a living anymore. Though not much seems to have changed method-wise, there's enough new stuff that I still appreciate input, especially if I'm derping on something obvious.
So right now, I'm just letting memtest do its thing while tapping away at my old-ass laptop. Anyone have any input on this? Something I've missed or overlooked? I can tell ya right now that I'd much rather simply buy a new computer than spend the next few days memtesting, but whatever.CPU - 2600K
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68V-Pro
VIDEO: GTX 570 + GTX 560 physx
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1333
SSD: Crucial M4 128GB
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
History: Built late August, early September 2011. Functioned fine up until about a week ago, over which span of time the following issue grew more frequent and problematic:
Issue: blue screens at random intervals ranging from 15 minutes to 4 hours; afterwards, SSD disappears from post until cold boot.
Steps taken:
1) SSD swapped to different ports and controllers. issues persist. noted that mechanical drive and optical drives did not vanish. at this point, I suspected that the SSD was having issues and was considering an upgrade to Samsung 830 256GB or 512GB.
2) windows reinstallation over existing windows copy. issues persist. (also crashed once during one install attempt).
3) windows reinstallation over command prompt drive overwrite (with diskpart's clean all) . issues persist.
4) memtest on all four DIMM's. 10 errors in 15 hours. it was here that I got a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.
5) reset BIOS to default and reconfigured. issues persisted through the next windows session.
6) reduced memory frequency. issues persist.
7) loosened memory timing. issues persist.
I'm really hoping that it's the RAM and not the motherboard. Here's what I plan to do:
1) Remove the GTX 560. Don't think this will help at all, but worth a shot.
2) Upgrade BIOS. I DOUBT this will work, since I was functioning fine up until now, but it's worth a shot.
3) Memtest on single DIMM's. If no errors found, memtest on different combinations of DIMM pairs. If errors found, replace "problematic" DIMM with known good DIMM. If errors still found, replace motherboard.
EDIT:
I'll update with minutiae here.
RAM setup:
DIMM1, slot A1; DIMM2, slot A2; DIMM3, slot B1; DIMM4, slot B2
Recommended settings:
single DIMM, slot A2
dual DIMM, slots A2, B2
So...MEMTEST results:
DIMMs 2 & 4, Slots A2 & B2 - ~5 hours, 8 passes, no errors
1) I got lucky.
2) DIMMs 1 or 3 or both are bad.
3) Slots A1 or B1 or both are bad.
Onto the following:
1) I'm going to play around for the remainder of the afternoon to see if it crashes.
