It's for a home theater, not for gaming.

They're not the best. But for the price they offer very good value for money.
You've already shown that when it came down to you dissing their DAC - which turns out to be a 6 channel version of the one used in the X-Fi.
As little as possible, below £200.
I only assumed that the DAC would be as poor as the rest of the system. I'll give them that it's a really decent one in there, but that still doesn't fix the rest of the flaws of the system(s).Bertster7 wrote:

Oh, you aren't gonna get anything worthwhile for that anyhow. Go Logitech.Finray wrote:

And really, get rid of that bloody text under your name, people are just gonna start ignoring your posts.
Nevermind, move along.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
Well it doesn't have to be great, it's for my parents, and they're not exactly tech-head audiophiles.
I'm only taking the piss...Freezer7Pro wrote:

For the money Logitech speakers provide a pretty good 5.1 offering. I don't know of many other all-in-one systems that can rival them in that price bracket. That's my point. Yeah, they don't produce much for the power they consume and the mid-range is a little lacking, but so are all their competitors. It would be nice to spend more and have better ones, but not everyone is that fussy. For sound quality in that price range a 2.1 system is always going to be better - but it's nice to have surround sound.
Not in the original context of the posts about this - which were actually by you. You said it would be better to use the DAC on an Audigy 2 than on the speakers themselves - but the DAC on the speakers is better than the DAC on the Audigy 2. Which is what I was pointing out in that instance. In this instance I'm just using it to take the piss out of Freezer for his Logitech hating ways..Sup wrote:
The DAC chip is nothing without the surrounding components and if those are of poor quality then the DAC is just as bad, honestly.

Oh, one more thing, they have to be good with voice. Can't tell you how many movies have the voice volume at like 0.1% and the music volume at 400%.. so you have to turn it right up to hear the voices, and right down at a music part..
Know what I mean? Is that fixable with decent speakers?

Having the surround stuff setup right helps with that - but then some films rips are encoded by idiots who wouldn't know a proper surround downmix if it slapped them round the face.Finray wrote:

But no, these speakers won't be particularly good for that - since like all 5.1 all-in-one systems they have shitty mid-range.
My parents watch legit DVDs or from the TV.. not down to a shit rip.Bertster7 wrote:

So I'd be looking for something with good mid-range for that then?
For legit DVDs they'll sound pretty good. They do have range compression (they call it night mode) on them to deal with exactly that sort of stuff.Finray wrote:

Put the i5 to 3.7 and highest temps were 63 after 9 hours of prime95, idling between 31-33. I'll go a bit further tonight.
Up'd the cpu to 3.7, core went way up, do you think the gpu is being bottlenecked?

Yea... I still had 3 more computers...
I'm thinking about getting this monitor because it's cheap and I also plan on getting a PS3, so the HD would be nice. However, it being a monitor and not a TV (and after reading some reviews), it seems that any games not in 1080p will look terrible. The question is, will they look so terrible that gaming using a default component cables will be better? (Since that'd be my only other option).
Just sitting at the desktop. I think I need more RAM
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
I don't think folding is everyone elses idea of 'sitting at the desktop'
Hm, I remember when this stuff that I'm putting in a junk computer for testing stuff with was considered quite high-end, and at prices that I could only dream about (well, aside from the ultra-cheap PSU which was broken from factory, as well as the FX5200). I got it all for free, like, five years later.

So I got my GPU. It's not exactly the one I ordered though. This one doesn't have the fully covered face, which is what I ordered. What's better?
Sorry for the out of focus pics, it was pretty dark.

Sweet. Shame I can't use it until Christmas
probably a lot more quiet than the original one, those things are ridiculous. Which way does the air exhaust out of that btw?
Yay, the 8800GT max sent me is ready for pickup, let's hope that the customs will at least use some lube on me.
I'm expecting to pay $20 for a "toll report" and another $10 for the VAT...and that's for a card I got for free.
FML.

I want a new video card... C'mon Nvidia!
Ordered some more ram. I always seem to run out
