this is quite impressive. But I don't really get it, isn't the #970 card the flagship single-GPU card? And this one, averaged across all the games, is only marginally beating nVidias year-old equivalent?
44 fps vs 33 fps is a fair gap when talking about the flagship single-gpu cards. In that same benchmark the GTX580 and HD6970 are only a few fps apart yet the GTX580 costs ~$150 more.

I am fairly impressed by the 7970 so far. Will be interesting to see more benchmarks and Nvidia's counter (which seems to be a fair way off at the moment unfortunately)

Anyone have a clue as to why I've started getting this error a couple days ago when visiting http://gamereplays.org/companyofheroes/

Can I update an SSD's firmware with my OS on it, without reformatting? The site I get the downloads from says it doesn't support OS drives. Not sure if this is just to save them hassle from any potential issues or whether it just genuinely doesn't work.

yes you can, according to this:
http://www.ocztechnology.com/files/ssd_ … umer_4.pdf

1) Updating firmware is not supported on drives (Vertex 3, Vertex 3 Max IOPS, Agility 3, Solid 3, RevoDrive
3, and RevoDrive 3 X2) running as the boot drive. Please install the SSD as a secondary drive when
updating the firmware. An alternative way is using a standalone Linux distribution (booting off the CD) to
update the primary boot SSD.
See “Updating your firmware with a drive that can not updated as a primary
drive” section for more details
it was no problem for me cause i bought new mobo, so i had to reformat anyway.

Ahh, good idea.

I remember now actually trying to make a Linux boot disc, but couldn't find a simple solution easily, so I gave up.

This will give me something to do tomorrow morning. Cheers

If you have a Samsung 830 SSD, the Magician software will update without erasing a thing.

Vertex 3

Can anyone help me out and link to an ISO download for a bootable Linux OS that I can just burn, boot and then run the firmware tool off of?

I really have no clue when it comes to Linux. Too much choice and I'm not sure which will let me do what... :S

Fairly important part there. The benchmark I posted was very impressive on its own, but doesn't show the full story.

ITX! do it. Go H67 itx!

Or H67 matx. there really is no need for full atx unless you are going multi-gpu, sound card, pci storage.

isn't asrock a shit brand? ebuyer has the exact board you were on about and it's damn cheap. tempting.

The asus looks real nice and my current asus has had absolutely no problems. I'm struggling to see where the extra £40 is going though.

How's Crucial Ballistix nowadays? I've got that in my rig at the moment and would like to get some more if it's still good. great customer service, and only had 1 stick go bad in the 3(?) years I've had it
