My 1TB drive is almost full... thinking about getting 2 2TB drives this winter (still got about 174GB open on my 1TB) and throwing them into a RAID1 configuration.

more platters = higher chance of drive failure.

check your smart data regularly, watch for relocation errors, and if they increase.

you can normally say if it's increasing over 100, and 200 beyond that, you have bout 3-6 months to move your data to a new drive.

from experience, seagate / WD have no difference. They are both hit and miss on drives. Hell, if you leave mine on for 2 years straight 24/7, what do you really expect.

I never said that 2TB were unstable... but in saying that, they posess a higher chance to drive failure.

That said, put all your movies and TV Shows etc on the 2TB, and shove your important photos, music, and other important documents on a smaller drive.

this obviously assumes that both drives are around the same age, and that the smart data is regularly checked.

The most common issue with computers i find @ the store is drive failure, and customers never even knew that backups were so essential...
everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously.

Me and my dad finished a project John started years ago, getting a turntable + amp system set up. Sounds fantastic from a record, but when you use an axillary input (like the Mac) the bass starts to crackle at high volume. Ideas?

Does anybody know what the requirements for Best Buy's geek squad are? I enjoy getting rid of crap on my friends' computers and boosting their PC speed, or just doing basic tech support things. So I was wondering if Geek Squad might be a nice low income job I could do. Does anybody know anything about them or if there's a better job along those lines I should do now?

Why not read Best Buy's website? I'm sure if you took the time to look for yourself instead of instantly going to a forum you'd be amazed the information you could fine...

Anybody notice that when a company puts "Gaming" in their products name, it means "ugly as shit" and not "performance".

What's your setup? Are you going straight from your mac to the amp, or do you have a DAC/switching box/something else?
Also, when you say high volume, is that high volume on the mac or on the amp, or both?

Mac goes straight to the amp which then goes through the speakers.

Volume is max on the Mac, about 1/4 on the amp before the bass crackles.

Have you tried turning the volume down on the Mac?

Would that make a difference? I thought you were meant to have the source volume loud.

Can't hurt or take to much effort to try. You need to get a hold of Freezer some how. Also doesn't sup. know a bit about sound.

I've had crackling and sound problems when going from a PC to a amp and the volume was too high on the computer. Try it at 60% and turn the amp up.

This. Since your mac's sound card isn't great and it's going straight to the amp, you'll get distortion. I suggest not exceeding 50% there, and going up to 2/3 on the amp. Also, be aware that 128 kb/s mp3 is going to have crappy bass at high volume no matter what you play it on.
I like pie.
