Well you might as well upgrade if you're going to go to the trouble of buying a new card. A comparable 6xxx card to the GTX460 SE is the HD6790. But since you're waiting for 7xxx you might as well buy a HD6870 in my opinion.
well yeah I'm gonna wait for the 7-series to come out so the 6-series prices drop.

Are Samsung and Dell still the go-to guys for LCD monitors? I'm looking for something in the 21"-24" range.. Have a 24" at work (HP LP2465) and I'm really loving the extra work area it gives compared to the non-widescreen 19" I have at home.
I have a Samsung and a Dell side by side at work. Go with the Samsung. The Dell just seems shoddy in comparison.
Aight, so which model ranges are worth getting?

Your first problem is you're an idiot.  Lenovo's are renown for their quality.

The real question is why are you getting a 17" laptop, you're going to regret it the first time you pick it up.
Anything you would recommend around the same price range? I'm no expert with laptops, their brands or components.
what about this lineup - http://shop.lenovo.com/us/notebooks/ide … eries/y570

I just got one, very solid.

This line has a better keyboard though - the chicklet one drives me nuts http://shop.lenovo.com/us/notebooks/ide … ries/y560p
Looks nice, only problem being they don't seem to sell that series or anything close to it through the UK site, and shipping will be far too expensive.

Grrrrrrrrrr, £89 for a new 12-cell battery for my laptop. Would it be worth it Over the £59 6-cell?

That's a fairly pricey board for the processor you put on it.

Kim, get a little notebook and an average desktop, because when you want the laptop to be a laptop, it'll be too heavy, and have no battery life, when you want it to be a desktop, it'll be too underpowered.

You'll probably spend the same amount, too.

8gb of ram should be fine, and just get the best gfx card you can within your budget. Finray's suggestion wasn't a bad idea imo, but then again I always have a desktop for games, wouldn't buy a laptop for it.

I wish Windows 8 would already be out. I want a new laptop (don't need one) but don't want to buy one yet. Almost thinking about just getting an iPad and calling it a day... almost.

i have internet issues that at times require laptop, but overall this is for travel. it will be replacing my 2006 toshiba satellite, a 17", 7.5 lbs.
the 2011 hp here is 15", 5.8lbs.

is there a different between these that I would notice?
1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
2GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]

The extra VRAM will certainly run games smoother at higher resolutions, what's the native resolution of the screen? Edit: just seen it in your other post lol, if you want to run newer games at the native res of the screen the extra 1gb of VRAM on the gfx card will certainly help, what's the price difference between the 2?

and prettier - buy a mac

but seriously, will you be taking this with you? if yes - get a 15.6", if no, get a 17". easy as that.
