I'd say that the proper words to use would be lower and higher; "the lower the /delay between/ ping /transmission and response/ , the better".

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

that's only because it has become accepted into every common parlance though, it's just the way we linguistically refer to ping. it has acquired a different grammatical form to the actual technical sense of the word, i.e. it has shifted into an improper noun and we now refer to it in a different manner. ping as a measurement of time should technically be faster/slower-- especially in the context of a conversation about the 'fastest' connection. galt was discussing ping in exactly that context.
