find a good x264 encoding tutorial - with enough practice you can get the encodes pretty transparent at relatively small file sizes.Ilocano wrote:
I finally got off my ass and have started transfering my dvd collection to my media server. Could anyone recommend the optimum video, audio, resolution settings for dvd media? What is the best format/codecs to use? Storage is not an issue. I has 6TB+. But I have no desire to select the highest settings if they won't give any advantages.
Anyone have experience using their old videocard as a dedicated PhysX card?
I had thought about upgrading my GTX 260 to a 4-series card, but then I considered just getting a $65 SLI-capable mobo and running the GTX 260 with an 8800 GTS as the PhysX processor.
As I mainly play BC2 (PhysX intensive, obviously...), I thought that might yield more bang for the buck than the $200+ video card.
Thoughts?

You can be certain that a new card will give you better performance than putting your 8800GTS as PhysX. But if the money is the problem then it might give you some more performance for little price.
Bad Company 2 doesn't use the PhysX engine, it has its own dedicated physics engine.-CARNIFEX-[LOC] wrote:

there are loads of mp4 vids on torrent sites assuming droid supports this usually very widely supported codec unless you want to watch some private video on it, that will require converting. I used imtoo converter to watch mp4s on my PSP
got it to work! found an app called arcmedia.. playing avi w no issues/ here is a link!Morpheus wrote:
kim, did you check out my link?
It looked like there were some good ideas there
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/2010/08/1 … eo-player/
Features:-
* Supported Video Formats: asf, avi, mkv, mov, mp4, rmvb, wmv
* Supported Audio formats: mp3, ogg, wav, wma
* Codes Supported: aac, ac3, divx, flv4, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, PCM, RealVideo, Vorbis, xvid
* Based on the FFmpeg project (that’s where libraries used in the app come from, actually!)
* It’s a beta version, new features are being added (as claimed by the developer)
So, you finally got a player for your favorite video format, isn’t it. Well, we can spot a smile on your face from here!
So teds told me to remove the fragile stuff from the PC when sending it via airplane.
I thought "nah, cba"
open the box today, turn it on, it wouldn't pass the first boot screen (F12 for boot menu, Delete for BIOS, etc etc), I notice it's quiet so I open it up and notice the CPU fan not spinning. I turn it off and see that the fan is bent and crashes with the actual heatsink, and that the HS stands a bit wobbly on the CPU

Seriously, never transport fully assembled PC's via air checked luggage. They toss items like fish in New York fish markets. If you must ship desktop pc's fully assembled, it has to go by ship. Slow as ass, but that's the only way they will be reasonably handled.
I dont like the look of that at all.

I think it looks pretty cool. Thinking about taking some pieces of my case and spray painting them, just not sure what colors...

about NVIDIA's future plans:
rumor: Possible two different GPU branches, one strictly for HPC and one for gaming. There is no need for computing related shit on gaming GPUs, chip designs will be dediated for either or, not both from now on. Meaning there would be two flagship GPUs in future, one for Quadro and one for Geforce.
facts:
Fermi 40nm -> Kepler 28nm (2011) -> Maxwell (2013)
3x Performance/W 15x Performance/W (compared to Fermi)
Keywords: Performance per watt.
GF104 first in this new thinking way.

Thats about it for tonight. They did show some extremely impressive shit too but no screens of those, more CUDA related really.
Oh and Max, they remembered you in the code names...

No one can deny GF104 is very good in p/W, and its as much Fermi as GF100 ever has been. Maybe even more, it is optimized for gaming, not computing.Finray wrote:

15 FPS less for 40W more. Par for the course for the whole video.
GF104 is a great chip though. Hopefully they can refine it even more.

Bleh, smartphones. Unless you're a hard-core businessman, you don't need one.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
