once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Just emailed the editor of the PC mag I read. They ran a feature on how to build a pc, so I emailed him with the link to CommieKiller's fantastic fail, saying that he missed one vital part in the pc building masterclass.

Dear Alex,

After receiving another glorious edition of your magazine through the door two days ago, I couldn't wait to read the feature on building your own PC. I love reading about how it all goes together, as I haven't had the chance to build my own pc as of yet, but I will be keeping this copy of the mag tucked away somewhere safe for when I do finally buy a new pc.

I couldn't help but think that you had missed one vital part though, and it comes from one of the members of the forum I am a member of. This guy somehow managed to put the TIM on the pins of his CPU, and then inserted the CPU into the Motherboard.

That's the link, and even if you don't publish this huge warning, I'm sure you and the other guys at the office will get some brilliant laughs out of it.

Yours sincerely,

Ahh I miss my PS1...  I still remember being utterly stunned by the graphics in FF VIII lol, they were simpler, happier times. Fuck I didn't even have a PC back then.

The only console I ever owned was a N64...

I had only 3 games and 1 controller (SupMario64, Blast Corps and lego racers)...
Enjoyed it, but didn't make me want another console... it's too expensive...

N64 left me a bit cold tbh, Perfect Dark was epic, other than that nothing made me wanna buy one.  The PS1 is what created the geek I am today, I actually went outside before I had that

This is one of my biggest PS1 memories lol, nothing around that time really allowed you to summon up a fucking huge dragon that basically fired nukes from its face apart from this game, good times.

And if you need an example of just how over the top one single attack can get

Attack me will you, fine I'm gonna fucking fire you ass first into the centre of a Galaxy!

OK I'm having flashbacks to being 13 here... I may have to go dig this out and play it again

'dick about games'? i spent sooo many hours on goldeneye with friends and in single-player, loads of hours in single-player/multi Conker's, and tons of hours exploring the easter-eggs and getting full completion on mario 64. i honestly cannot say i spent anywhere near as much time on my playstations except for final fantasy VII/VIII and the metal gear solid games. n64 definitely held its own during that generation.

how's THIS for a boss fight? that's right, a turd-tenor

Goldeneye is an exception, didn't play it myself but, a mate of mine had an N64 and loved goldeneye, that's where my Perfect Dark play time came from, everything else really is a pick up play and forget experience though. The 'Dick about' genre as i refer to it is every bit as nostalgic, but more for the fun you have with mates when playing than for the actual game itself, if that makes sense, it's in no way a bad thing nor a criticism.

When I think back to games that held my attention as a kid it's all FF, MGS and stuff like CnC, stuff that either involves you or makes you think.  That said I have killed many an hour on stuff like Tekken and Twisted Metal, but like I say that's more for who you're playing with than what you're playing.

TBH the only reason I didn't want an N64 is because my best friend had one, the only time I wanted to play it is with someone else so I'd just go round his place. It what Nintendo do, social games, less serious stuff to just enjoy with other people.

sorry but you're wrong. conker's, goldeneye and mario kart all had brilliant multi-player, for the console pre-internet era.

mario 64 was a brilliant single-player game, too. had nothing to do with mates. the n64 was a great console for its time!

Conker's maybe, didn't play it, Goleneye yes, Mario Kart engrossing? Just no lol, no story, no mental challenge it is the symbol of a dick about game   Yes it's a fkin amazing game, but it's only as good as the people you play it with. Mario Kart by yourself = yawn.

Never said the N64 was bad either, I was quite clear about that actually lol. It did what it was aimed at and was better for what I call 'social gaming' i.e. getting your mates round for a laugh, than any other console.  But for killing hours just immersed in a game no console had the supply of good games that the PS had.

Got an e-mail back;

Hey Cameron

Thanks for the email - glad you liked the mag, the PC building masterclass is always a fun story. As for the poor sod who got very mixed up with the paste... Well, let's hope it didn't put him off PCs forever!

Cheers,

Alex

Nearly everytime I show someone (mainly people who are PC-dumb) the wonders of CCleaner, I end up with >16GB of various crap outside of recycle bin removed...
