Oh wait, you're dead. and not just dead, you're dead dead!

I think this little corner of the BF2s forums needs to respawn at the nearest rally point.

Does anyone still play this great mod?

I regularly go on the ]H[ Chicago Hardcore and Virginia Mixed servers and usually play infantry.
I've taken up squad leading for a bit, but usually when the original squad leader leaves and the mantle of responsibility passes down to me.

Don't yet have the confidence to drive/ gun for armour yet or fly jets or helicopters in a full server; something to do with everyone getting pissed at you if you crash into trees or high-rise buildings.

If you still play, post here and I'll try to compile a list of active PR players. We could create a BF2s squad sometime and play together with Mumble. It's a cool little app, but not nearly enough people use it.

Me and my friend play it every Friday and Saturday night, it's the best thing ever to happen to BF2. We usually play on 10th community, Skyttegrav, UK Warfare or the ]H[ Chicago Kashan 24/7.

Vehicles and sniping is our thing, since we stick to being just the two of us the majority of the time.

That video pretty much says it all. It's PR in a nutshell.

downloaded, got bored.

Maps and vehicle models are amazing, and it seems like it would be fantastic if you could get 64 friends together to fill out the maps, but that never happens.

I guess PR isn't that popular over here.

It's only bad if you expect to have fun in a game. Otherwise, it's pretty cool.

I suppose it's down to different playstyles. Some people enjoy grinding like hell on WoW, others prefer the instant gratification of TF2.

While transport in PR isn't exactly sane, it's a section of the battlefield that's more emphasised in PR than in other games and mods. As it is, you have dedicated helo transport squads and APC squads that ferry infantry to the frontlines. Thing is, some people actually like doing that.

I find that walking a bit in PR actually adds to the tension and drama of the battle. You never know if a jihadist is round the corner, or up on the sand dune in the distance, or in the building at the side of the road prepping his RPG. That's the beauty of long travel times that's absent from CQC maps; the element of surprise and tactics like ambushing.

To each his own I guess.

Fun? PR IS FUN. Playing the same IO round of Karkand is what's not fun. The most fun I ever have in any game is when I'm playing PR on a team that uses teamwork.

Idiot.  From all of BF2, the most fun came from Project Reality.  But please, tell me what you would find fun.

Disclaimer: The following is speaking only from my own experiences and is not an attempt at generalization and I've got nothing against people who choose to play or not to play Project Reality. Also, I hope none of the posters in this topic take this as a personal attack against them. I've really got nothing against you (only a few people I know, but they aren't here).

I've come to realize that PR is like a religious cult. The followers are intensely devoted to it and can't shut up about it to their friends and fellow gamers who aren't already playing it. When they aren't in PR, they're constantly comparing vanilla BF2 to it and will not hesitate to let you know how much better PR is. They manage to get a few naive people to try it out (myself included), and then those people try it out and can't for the life of them understand what the fuss is all about, and come back with nothing but horror stories to tell. Plus, one someone has converted to PR, they're a changed person, and they behave completely differently from before (usually a change for the worse). Eventually you start talking about these people in the past tense. They're dead to you, gone forever.

Me and my mate played some PR this saturday, here are some highlights:

Started out playing Korengal Valley as US, two man squad. I was Officer and Squad leader, he was medic. We set out to flank the enemy weapon caches while the main strength of our team was making a direct assault. The cache to the west of our base was inaccessible directly because of steep cliffs, so we headed over the river to another cache that had no friendlies around it. We went looking in the mountain hills, shot dead a single taliban that tried to assault us.

The cache was nowhere, it had to be underground, and just as we suspected, there was a cave nearby, we snuck into the cave, finding a single US soldier up against what seemed like hordes of talibans, we went in, supported him, destroyed cache, but my friend was stuck on the lower level of the cave with no grappling hook to get up. Then came a shitstorm of talibans into the cave, I took out 3 of them with my trusty M16, my magazine was empty so I took out my officer's sidearm and made a last stand. I was killed, and our rallypoint had already been overrun. The round ended before we could get iin the action again since we joined late.

Map changed to a chechen vs spetz scenario. We were the chechen rebels, so I picked up a sniper kit and he picked up a medic kit, serving as both a spotter and a medic. The enemy was making a push for the west outpost so we set up east of it in some trees looking for infantry to snipe. Got around 5 kills, then a BRDM showed up. He was fighting our friends for a long time, then all of sudden the gun turned around, and I was looking right down the barrel. Needless to say, I didn't last long against a 14.5 mm KPV.

I respawned with vengeance on my mind, so I requested an anti-tank kit. But they were all issued, so I grabbed a riflemen AT, I had one RPG-26 with no reloads. I went to set up an ambush, heard him coming, pulled out my rocket, prepared to fire. He came rushing at full speed, I shot at him. I think I managed to hit him because the crew jumped out and bum rushed me, killing me.

There was another BRDM on the loose, this time I got a heavy AT weapon, RPG-7 with 2 extra rockets, but OH SHIT, he was inside our fortress, I managed to hide somewhere, and when he drove towards me I shot a RPG at him, it caught fire, the crew jumped out but then it blew up, killing them.

Later that night we were playing Jabal Al Burj, grabbed an APC and went supporting our infantry. Highlights from that round would be when a friendly Huey got hit by a IGLA and lost control, was a few meters away from crashing into us while we were in the water, we both screamed "OOOOH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT" over vent as loud as we could

Last round I could remember was on Muttrah, we took a boat to the land from our carrier, hid in the hills as a sniper team. Taking out lone infantry, and using the laser marker to mark targets for the attack helicopter. It's awesome to lase a target, and then 20 seconds later, a shitload of missiles come raining from the heavens from a cobra

We still play BF2 every now and then as well if PR gets too slow, but PR is the most fun we have.

tl;dr: PR IS AWESOME.
