On-board Sound card error

I have a Gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G with an on-board sound card.
I use a USB headset and a Speaker set that connects with a green jack into the green port at the back of my PC.
When I want to change from headset to speakers I have to unplug the USB and plug the sound jack in at the back, which makes a prompt pop up.

The green jack symbol flashes to say what has been plugged in, I click OK on the small box and OK on the bigger window and I'm ready to go.

Occasionally, I get the box flashing up saying that there has been a jack unplugged when I have done nothing to touch it, and it keeps coming up every few seconds when I close the windows. The only thing that seems to stop it, is taking the jack out for real and putting it back in a few times and closing the pop-ups this opens.

I have had the problem for a while, and not really been bothered with it, except now someone else in my family has the same problem with a Gigabyte on-board Soundcard (Motherboard type unknown), but to an extent that it happens EVERY time they use the computer.
They do not have a headset and only have a speaker set that is always plugged in.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Can't believe I haven't thought of that yet.
Will have to try it on the other PC to see if it helps, as it doesn't happen often on mine.

That's what I did when it started to bug me. Different mobo manufacturer but Realtek audio on both so it shouldn't matter.

Has stopped coming up, but i don't know if the problem was solver or covered up, either way is fine by me

Just some info to simplify things (this should work for you) I also use a USB headset and speaker set on my pc. To keep from having to unplug the speakers to use the headset just set the USB headset as the default sound device (while it is plugged in), this will make the headset take priority when plugged in and the speakers when it is unplugged. You just have to make sure the headset is plugged in before you open the app you want to use the headset for.

I reinstalled the drivers and checked the box to stop the message coming up.
Turns out my headset now doesn't work on my PC to try your tip Jaz (but the speakers do), gonna have to look into drivers for the headset now.

I take it back, it was BECAUSE i hadn't selected the USB headset as default that it wasn't being picked up.
