absolutely love this guy's oeuvre... astonishingly atmospheric music. been listening to him for a few years and this latest record really is a high-point. song-writing and lyricism is astounding- very poetic and lots at work, here.

i am absolutely amazed by demdike stare... dug a few of their releases over the years, but never given them much time. one of those acts that just didn't get my attention. lately i've been in a drone/ambient mood and decided to properly check out their back catalogue. i haven't heard such purism in a long, long time. esoteric crate-digging of old records, moody dubs, chilling atmospherics. they carve an aesthetic and an identity out of a vast range of audio-visual sources and create a listening experience that really is incredible. i don't want to rely on 'haunting' as a term because it has been appropriated by all the nostalgia-pining 'hauntology' circuit of 1980's television-samplers and retro-gear revivalists... but this is 'haunting' in the occult sense and in the mystical sense. this music could be the soundtrack to a cult horror film of the 1920's... incredible underground british purists.

definitely recommend to any listeners of (dark) ambient, dub, drone or noise.

Y'know what movie was awful but still had a great soundtrack (or "music inspired by..."), fucking Batman Forever! I can't objectively judge it or tell if it's crappy, too, because it's been ingrained in me by my family listening to it a lot. It was that one CD we never bought but always got from the library.

Listen now.

anyone heard 'black swan in 8 movements'? it's an ambient/drone/noise record that's floating around with the black swan movie styling and cover-art... not sure who produced it (or if it's even meant to be kept a mystery). i thought it would just be an official soundtrack but MY GOD, it's not. i think someone has just taken the film as a start-point and created something amazing out of it. it sounds like a mix between tim hecker's ambient atmospherics and trent reznor's early, dark melancholia. very weird. very surprised by this record.

Joyland - Andy McKee (The song not the album)

Simply amazing. You must hear the studio version as while his live performances are great, the Cello in the studio version adds to the sound and atmosphere so much I think you need to hear that version first.

I realise this might not be to most of your tastes but It is absolutely worth at least downloading to check out.

i wouldn't say it's the best, but it's definitely better than 90% of the stuff off of ESP&G
