A lot of people on this forum stated "zomg bush/cheney blackwater/contractors" blah blah blah.  So, not a mention about this at all.  Good job sheep.

"The number of military contractors in Afghanistan rose to almost 74,000 by June 30, far outnumbering the roughly 58,000 U.S. soldiers on the ground at that point. As the military force in Afghanistan grows further, to a planned 68,000 by the end of the year, the Defense Department expects the ranks of contractors to increase more."

What makes it worse is the Taliban is getting a cut of all the contract money.

He inherited it from Bush.

All Bush's fault.

Do not question The Obama.

So basically he's moved contractors from Iraq to Afghanistan, give or take.
Seems like a no-brainer TBH, and no significant number of extra contractors in total.
https://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj256/Dilbert_X/NA-AZ907_CONTRA_NS_20090821185143.gif

If Bush hadn't gone into Iraq just think, the jobs those 74,000 contractors are doing would be done by troops, and 46,000 other troops wouldn't be deployed at all.

Using contractors for a necessary war is one thing.

Using them to rebuild a country you just bombed the hell out of for no reason in a war of choice is another.

Bombing hell out of somewhere so you can transfer tax dollars to you buddy is another again.

Oh and
He inherited it from Bush.

Oh, so after claiming that these guys are not mercs for the Bush years you've changed your stance also, Marine?

And we've been saying move out of Iraq and concentrate on Afghanistan for a while now, the fact that Obama is doing that is a good thing. Although the numbers of Mercs imo should be greatly limited.

Why? The volunteer to do it, why not let them? Is your objection that their are people who can die for our country cheaper or what?

Cheaper. And they have a sense of insert any strict military discipline/doctrine/morals.

I'm not going to say that the contractors are gun toting airheads in it for nothing but the money. But I certainly do not hold them in as high a regard as the soldiers currently serving.

Surely when you make your armed forces so reliant on contractors , it wont be changed overnight ( ie, when the next president gets in).
It will take ages to change that fact. The fact that they need a troop surge at the moment in Afghanistan means there will be be more contractors for now.
Yes it is Bushes fault.!!!

Nope, kings used mercs way back too. In the end their asses belonged to the mercs.

Mercs can also operate outside of the constraints of the constitution and the UCMJ..  I can understand the use of reconstruction and infrastructure contractors (IF the taliban wasn't getting a sweet cut from the contracts) but combat mercs are a VERY bad thing to be getting involved with.

So what? More troops and going and so are contractors. Bush was the president who started using contractors in wars in large numbers. Can't pull them all out now it would leave a void. Not to mention the thousands of solders who didn't do a second or third term so they could go back as contractors and earn 4 times as much money. Would the army take them back? Would they go back to war with a huge wage cut? Snow ball effect.
