I think we can be sure that it will be laid out like the 7900GTX or GTX295rev2 - surely it can't keep the same cooler as the 2/3/4 series with an exhaust vent that small?

Its not sure whether that is the Cypress (HD5870) or Redwood (56xx) mainstream card. Redwood would run just fine even with such small exhaust port.

I think I saw a pic of Cypress somewhere, it didn't have same cooler as HD 48xx, but fan was the same.

New cooler on a black PCB would be nice, though I suppose XFX will do some nice XXX editions   Really looking forward to this, upgrade for me soon.

Theres ''some'' sort of launch in september for ATi, I keep hearing people saying its a paper launch but I cant think why ATi would do that, for all the bad press they will get.  They will be first to market easily beating Nvidia to Dx11, theres no need for a paper launch to grab headlines, then again, there hasnt been any news as to whether or not there producing the chips yet (so far as am aware).

Nvidia will be november at the earliest.

Unless nVidia has something better at that point (and they might still, I've been out of the computer hardware tech loop for about a year now) I think I'm gonna do some upgrading. This looks like it'll be in my plans.

My X800XT is failing, so I guess  I'll at least give AMD a try (I can always sell them and switch to NV if I want when GT300 comes)

Could be, they said there addressing heat this time, and it is a smaller manufacturing process.  I think Ati have some sort of embargo on aftermarkter coolers for the first few weeks, saphire and XFX will no doubt have revised coolers at some point.

The pic was about HD 4770 replacement (RV830) so its not a big surprise it doesn't need much cooling.

EDIT: And XFX uses reference coolers even in their top of the line Black Editions.

Aye right enough, must of been thinking of asus, they a dual fan 4890 I believe.

Trying to be as unbiased as possible, but the cooler looks like it is made out of clay. Tbh, those air ducts dont need plastic outlines.

Edit: The series does look promising. 2X the Performance of the 4870 is what I'm predicting. (Not hard w/ the SP numbers lawl)
