UK Schools to switch to "Clip-on" ties over safety fears

Pupils at a South Yorkshire school have started an online protest over a plan to introduce clip-on ties.

More than 400 people have joined a group on Facebook, demanding that traditional ties be restored at McAuley Catholic High School in Doncaster.
Schools across the UK are said to be switching ties over safety fears.

The protesters said the move was a "pathetic waste of money". The school is closed for the summer holidays and no-one was available for comment.
A Doncaster Council spokesman said: "Dress code at a school is a matter for the governing body."

In May the Schoolwear Association, the trade body for the school uniform industry, said 10 schools a week in the UK were switching, because of fears of ties getting caught in equipment or strangling pupils.

The association also said that clip-on ties can stop pupils from customising the size of the knots in their ties.

A statement from the Facebook protest group, Mcauley Against Clip-on Ties, said: "We, the members, wish to voice our protest against the clip-on tie policy that has been enforced at The McAuley Catholic High School, Doncaster.
"I personally think they are a pathetic waste of money."

Well actually it's the schools themselves that are switching, and the schools have every right to dictate what you wear.

I loved the fact that we had school uniforms. Fuck having to think what you have to wear. Even if it was just school, some thought would be required as to what you'd have to wear every day. With school uniforms, it's all easy. Just wear the same shit and make sure it gets cleaned.

I think the UK and Ireland are the only countries in Europe that make childern wear uniform.
Normal clothers are way better and a hell of alot more conforatble.

All that said, I dont want to wear clip ons
I wore them when I was four in my first year of primary school
They are not for a person who is sitting his GCSEs
