TV Monday announced plans to air a new U.S. reality series called "16 & Pregnant," which will document the true stories of several pregnant teens.

The series is slated to debut June 11 and will be comprised of six one-hour episodes, the network said.

"MTV has a long history of reflecting the lives of our viewers with compelling reality stories," Tony DiSanto, MTV's president of programming, said in a statement. "'16 & Pregnant' follows the journey of six young women going through an immensely life-changing experience at such a young age. Each episode tells a new, unique story and shows the real-life challenges they face from dealing with family and friends to school and finances as new mothers. This is the real secret life of an American teenager."

"Given that the teen birth rate is on the rise for the first time in a generation, MTV's '16 & Pregnant' is extremely timely," added Sarah Brown, chief executive officer of The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. "We applaud MTV for using their unique and compelling style of storytelling to bring this important programming to their devoted audience. The show provides an honest portrayal of the challenges of too-early pregnancy and parenthood. The stories in '16 & Pregnant' are full of hope, heartbreak, and real-life consequences and should be a must viewing for teens nationwide."

The show shouldn't show hope.

Anyway am I the only one that feels that this show is totally inappropriate and just glorifies teen pregnancy?!

nope, hey girls get pregnant and you have a chance of joining this TV show. If they are gonna try to tell the girls to keep the baby, its gonna be pretty rough for the girls.

I don't think this show will have any perceivable effect on teen pregnancy, negative or positive.

I suppose the one thing it could do is maybe educate teens on what to do and what not to do when having to raise a child at such a young age.  Then again, this is MTV, so it's probably just going to end up being like Jerry Springer.

Well you must admit, lots of teen girls watch MTV. If they see how rough it is, they might, just might, think about using protection.

I think it's pretty impossible to glorify teen pregnancy. I think it should be good, MTV seem to try pretty hard on the whole social improvement thing, so I doubt they'd try to spin it to make it look good. And anyway, have you ever met a 16 year old girl? They just whine and bitch and cry all the time, now imagine that when they're pumped full of hormones and no longer look good in a bikini.

The episodes I've seen don't show hope or glorify anything.  The girls complain through half the show ... perhaps that will scare the teen guys back in their pants.  You think she complains now big boy?  Get her pregnant and head for cover.

I thought it was good, something very rare for the channel.

I don't even want to know what kind of immoral bullshit they will talk about.

But I'm sure it will promote teen sex, just with condoms...

No, this show will popularize teen pregnancy.  Remember we live in a world of celebrity worship and just being on TV qualifies as a celebrity.

I will bet money if and when this show airs, teen pregnacy will sky rocket, do to all of the "attention" the subject will get.

Does it show them getting pregnant, because who the fuck would watch a bunch of fat white trash bitching about their feet and back being sore?

Jerry Springer bullshit, now pregnant 16 year old midget quadraplegic hispanic fence jumping sluts would be something I'd tune in for.

Awwww shit.

MTV is the worst thing on TV. Most of the crap is just adverts of the other shows, and when they're on, they have adverts in them too. MTV is just a bit fat channel for adverts.

4 year later
Farrah Abraham, star of MTV's "Teen Mom," after denying that she made a porn tape with adult film actor James Deen, now says that she did, in fact, make oneā€”and will sell it for $2 million.

Speaking with TMZ, Abraham says she made the tape for posterity:

"I'm a great woman, mother and entrepreneur . . . I wanted my own personal video made and photos taken for myself, when I am older I will have my best year to look back on."

The video, contests Deen, was made with the purpose of selling. Abraham has launched a host of endorsements since her show was canceled in August 2012, including a YouTube vid of her and her daughter, a pasta sauce and a book, "My Teenage Dream Ended."
