yeah it was for security. and i dont give a shit if they 'gave it' or what. they shouldnt be spending a fucking penny if they can't pay peoples disabilities or other shit way more important than this.
I agree, but there's not really a choice when it comes to something like this. There has to be a police/security presence in such situations. Anyway they talk about how Jackson's death is actually a boost in the economy as people go out to buy his Albums and memorabilia and shit.

There's nothing nobody can do, not even Jackson's family, about the amount of people that turned up. I suppose they could've at the extreme level just completely shut everything off, but in the real world, that would never happen. He was simply too famous of a guy for this sort of shit not to happen.
this man speaks the truth if nothing my second alternative would of been having a Jackson funeral where you can have over 10 million people or so standing at some place outside of downtown or anything.

Also another alternative I would of used the Western Ave which is in downtown LA, and have them carry the body all the way from Hollywood where Western Ave starts and go all the way down to San Pedro and then have road blocks and such and then crank as many fans as you can on the street.... But yeah they could of done it somewhere outside of the site where you could've supported like 100 million or more people all standing outside; do something outside the city... they have tons of flat land outside the city... so that shouldn't of been a problem... but yeah like I said I would of done it differently that way all of his fans got to see him for one last time... this way they restricted and told the fans not to come since only like 18-20k were able to fit into the Staples center.

Nope, I agree totally, kalifornia is a fucked up place to run a business. The homeowners are retarded, they are killing contractors wanting stuff for nothing because they know we are starving.

I wouldn't recommend another state, I'd recommend another country, and let me know where you decide because I may just be right behind you.

Not enough to matter.

IOU's? Big banks won't cash them after Friday? Many have not been mailed yet.

Businesses are dying like flies. There a so many vacancies and " going out of business forever " signs around it makes you sick.

Some may remember Stan, the guy in the thread about my stuck motorcycle whom we caught on camera with his pants down.

He is in ICU. Almost died yesterday.

Has been out of work for six months, extreme depression and boozing rot gut vodka. There is so much stress, I can't begin to tell you.

Nope, this place is a powder keg. There is wide spread pain and suffering and it is only snow balling.

There is in fact, no good news to be found, no end in sight and all signs are there that this will be something spectacular and painful, as bad or worse than The Great Depression.

Meanwhile, abuse by politicians is rampant.
Illegal aliens are out in the open, everywhere.
Many cannot afford to register their vehicles with the new rates.
Layoffs and cutbacks continue in a feeding frenzy bloodbath.
Home values keep falling.
Sane people know that the 26 billion is a shadow of what it will be next year when the property taxes come in at 10-25 less than they are expecting, that they base their projections on.

Simple numbers.. if you've got a 125k people spending money around the circus, say $50 in taxes (hotel fees, restaurants, sales, etc).. you've more than paid for it. Those numbers are probably low. I would guess that the city made at least 5 mil. That isn't to say that the city should be paying for it though. I just don't think it was a drain.

There were more like 27k from what I heard.

All those cops were pulling overtime and were in addition to the 3200 normally on duty.

I honestly don't care so much about the MJ aspect, and I think that was a small part of the OP.

He is describing the state of the state as a whole.

This place is fubar.

They are only making things worse and the state is bk. Insolvent. Broke.

I did a job for a fire fighter the other day and like all the other asshole customers he thought it was a situation where we could bargin. I gave him a price and nicely told him I wouldn't budge an inch and that he could hire an illegal alien if he wanted it cheaper.

I asked him what he did for a living, and when he told me I said; " you guys working for the state are crying, but everybody else is dying. "

What kills me is these state assholes are acting broke because they are afraid when in reality they haven't seen shit yet. Try taking a 80-90% cut, then come talk to me.

It is not fucking funny anymore.
We are trying to get assistance from my wifes church for Christs sake. They have a great program. We actually are boxing up cases of food and delivering to needy families next Thursday. I told her to apply.

I have got to the point where it is about food and gas. 95% of the time when the phone rings it is bill collectors, as if calling nonstop will make any sort of difference.

Well hallafuckinglouya, what a great big shit sandwich.

I find that hard to believe.. I'm talking about the entire event, not just tickets. Inside/outside.. the media.

Also consider: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/art … QD99AMF6O0
Los Angeles spent $1.4 million to provide security, traffic control and other services for Michael Jackson's memorial service, city officials said Wednesday as they looked for ways to have others help the financially troubled city pick up the bill.

The amount included $1.1 million in overtime pay for the 4,173 officers who worked to secure Staples Center, Forest Lawn cemetery and other areas that attracted fans and members of the media, the Police Department said in a statement.

City officials said the remaining amount covered traffic control, cleanup and other costs related to Tuesday's public memorial service, which was attended by a total of more than 17,000 fans and watched by tens of millions of people around the world.

Matt Szabo, a spokesman for Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, hailed the tally a success. He said it was "far less" than the initial estimate of $4 million.
The OP number looks to be way overshot.

But the new city controller, Wendy Greuel, seemed more concerned with the $48,826 that the Emergency Management Department spent on 3,500 boxed lunches from Jensen's Finest Foods in Wrightwood, in San Bernardino County. The lunches were intended for emergency personnel at the Jackson memorial, but Greuel thought it seemed excessive, especially after her staff called a nearby Subway and was given an estimate of $17,491 for the same number of lunches.
you watch; it will cost more than the number you mentioned.

And can't these fucking parasites pay for their own lunch?

See, as above, as it always is, they could have spent 17.5, but they spent 48.9k just on lunches.

ANY excuse to blow tax payer money is pounced upon.
The mantra is " we gotta spend every dime, if we don't we get less next year  " in regards to state spending.

That is why, no matter how much they are given, there will always be a crisis and they will always call for more and more money.

The last year I had full health insurance for my family it cost me 12k out of pocket. The state schools are a clusterfuck, full of immigrant children, " english learners ". The roads suck.

I had a Swedish girl friend once and she was going home to finish her college, paid for by the high tax rates there. She got full medical and dental as well.

The problem with here is that any scheme they come up with will be so riddled with corruption and fraud that it will go broke anyway. I would be willing to pay much more taxes, for security at the border, if my kids got college and heath care. The problem with here is that any scheme they come up with will be so riddled with corruption and fraud that it will go broke anyway.

eh, fuck 'em all. I wish things would just crash already so we could begin to fix it.

Because it was needed.  That Registration rebate that recently expired was a sham to pander to the car dealerships.

SoCal has damn too many cars.  Too many people are driving cars that they can't afford.  $400 Registration fee for a $38000 MSRP car is reasonable.  If you can't afford the $1000 Registration fee for a $90K car, even a lease, then you can't afford the car in the first place.  I see plenty of Navigators and Denalis driven by low income households.  That's just BS.

Housing prices should still be coming down.  Even at $400K, household income should still be at least $100K.  Prices need to go back to 3x-4x HHI before we're back to reasonable prices.  For those upside down and bought homes that they could only afford with teaser rates, tough shit.  They couldn't afford the house in the first place.

I do agree with you about that lunch BS.  Hell, I work Corporate, and we still use expensive caterers for our "meetings" and presentations.

As for contractors, it goes both ways.  I sympathize with your situation right now.  But in busy times, don't tell me you didn't charge premium prices.

BTW, I'm paying over $600 a month for family health insurance.  And that is with Corporate paying half.  We're all in the same boat.

Oh shit.  You are getting screwed.  Something screwy there.  Is it an Orange County thing?  I'm in LA, and my MSRP $38K (paid less that $32K) fully loaded 2008 Honda Odyssey is only $412 total Registration.  $326 is the License Fee.  $56 is the Registraton Fee.  Total fee for my 2002 Cr-V is only $131.

So, Kalifornia is paying for a portion of this shit, 5 million dollars- And thousands of state workers, and the above stated, are going to be going home soon to see no food on the table until OCTOBER.

Fuck this state and its irresponsibility. Our houses property tax just went up again! super. Next year my school will have 1 counselor for 3000 kids, no activities director, no special education, no transportation, 40 average kids to a class. and a long list of other layoffs.

I believe me and my family have had the last straw with this financial clusterfuck. I can't find the video, but some cunt senator said something like "it sounds great to live fiscally responsible, to spend what we make, and not go further into debt, and we would be a better state, but... lets be honest...we just can't do that" I'm convinced this is NEVER going to get better. The DEMS admitted they want to raise sales tax and other taxes even higher- Such as gasoline, which just cost me 50 bucks for 16 gallons. Or sales tax, which is 9.775 in LA county. Jesus- I'm just wondering how far they can keep raping me. Our vehicle registration fees for renewal were something like 500 and 1000 dollars.

I see these idiots widening roads, ripping up perfectly fine slopes to replant, repaving roads, throwing palm trees everywhere. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. I get accused of being selfish for not being a democrat because I "don't like to share"- NO- I just don't like to waste fucking money on Michael Jacksons fucking stupid memorial when we have a 25 BILLION DOLLAR FUCKING DEFICIT.

My dads business hasn't been making shit due to the fucking business taxes / slow ass economy so were living off fucking savings retirement and equity line. I can't afford shit and im flat out fucking broke.  I CANT AFFORD TO PAY FOR MICHAEL FUCKING JACKSONS SHIT or any other wastefull bullshit.
/end rant.

Does anyone have any states they could suggest living in?
Fuckin' AE!
