The point is not that there were no women like Fox or Jolie back then or that there are no women like Hepburn today, because there were and there are. The point is that whereas popular culture endorsed women like Hepburn back then, it endorses people like Fox today. In fact one could conclude that that actually says more about "us" than about the women involved
