Like I said...no one knew anything for sure and Saddam never helped his own case by cooperating at all. Let's not forget that Saddam invaded Kuwait, tried to escalate the war into something much larger by attacking Israel and even tried to attack part of Saudi Arabia (Battle of Khafji)
Please remember what the OP stated and what others jumped on Marine about. That we "stupid Americanos" somehow later thought Saddam was to blame. Again, no one I know thought or ever thought that. Even when the second gulf war started. I dont remember Bush going on TV and claiming that Saddam was behind 9-11 and that is why the US was going to attack. Others may have later but I dont recall that as a reason announced to the public.
Yes, some other idiotic politicians tried to tie the two...even many democrats and don't forget the campaign rhetoric that Gore and the democratic party was spewing that Bush was too soft on Saddam and spewing the same rhetoric about Saddam and WMD. Remember that?? Let's also not forget the dozens of international intelligence agencies who thought the same. The international community was just as much to blame as Bush or anyone else.
Probably this is why no one is doing much about North Korea. They don't want to make the same mistake again.
