COLUMBIA, S.C. – Gov. Mark Sanford admitted Wednesday he's been having an affair with a woman he visited on a secret trip to Argentina and said he'll resign as head of the Republican Governors Association. Sanford, a rumored 2012 presidential candidate, refused to say whether he'll leave office.

"I've let down a lot of people, that's the bottom line," Sanford said at a news conference. He said he's known the woman about eight years, but their relationship turned into something more a year ago while he was on an economic development trip to Argentina.

Sanford, a 49-year-old father of four, choked up during remarks to reporters. He said his wife has known about the affair for the last five months.

So much for him running in 2012.

That's also two GOP'ers in the past two weeks. Sen. Ensign from Nevada and now Gov. Sanford.

Sighs... During Jefferson's days, he was pimping it up in France and everyone loved him.

What's the fuzz about here, the fact that he has an affair or the fact that he made a trip for it (on taxpayers money?)?

Seriously.  I still don't get why someone has to resign just because of some personal indiscretions.  Yes, an affair is wrong, but how does that affect ones ability to do his job?

It doesn't. At all.

The only thing that bothers me is - I heard somewhere he used taxpayer dollars to fund his trip? Weren't people bitching at Obama for doing the same thing with NYC resident's taxpayer dollars? Where's the outrage?

Obama is black, everyone knows black people need financial support, thus any outrage would be concieved as rascist.

As Queen would say it:

*Another one bites the dust!*

Tis a shame that he would do that. I am also curious if he took the trip on taxpayers money. That would be a double slap in the face.

Where's the outrage?  Ha. It's been all of 17 minuites since you made the thread.  If this was on the taxpayers's dime He needs to pay that shit back.  Granted he doesn't have to step down, but apparently that's the classy thing to do.

Similar controversy with Palin and taxpayers paying for her kids travel expenses.  Her reasoning, that the prior two governors did the same thing.

What's really stupid is that these travel expenses are small compared to their income.  If they were smart, they should have just foot the bill instead of risking the chance of public outcry.

Yes, she paid it back.  But a high price to pay in the public's eye, for what, $8K?

Just get used to the fact that when a politician's mouth is moving, they are lying.

What's wrong Mr. Conservative? Not angry that he broke supposed Christian morals and was unfaithful to his wife? If this was Obama or any other Democrat you'd be having a field day.

It's funny you should bring up Clinton...  Sanford voted in favor of 3 of 4 articles during the impeachment of Clinton.  I wonder if he'll apply his past logic to his own office.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ap_on_re_us/ … rnor_where

Ensign was also another politician that pushed for Clinton's impeachment.  So, as you can see, what goes around...  comes around.

Anyway, all that aside...  I guess Sonny Perdue or Charlie Crist might become frontrunners for the GOP.

Selective arguments ftl?  I've made no argument as to this.  Good grief man.  Chill out.

Yes, I am conservative to a point.  Am I angry?  No.  Let down a bit?  No.  I make no excuses for those that are unfaithful to their spouses.  It's pretty weak to assume I'd be having a field day if this was Obama or any other dem.  I admit, I would be laughing my ass off at their idiocy, but field day?  nah.  Hell -dems give a free pass to this kind of behavior (kennedy and franks ring a bell).  -Actually, I kinda feel sorry for the spouses and kids involved in these things.  It hurts them the most.

Making up arguments ftl.

But seriously, why bother making this thread?  ATG deleted the one where he was missing.  What do you want to debate here?  Who's really having the 'field day'?

I think the sort of thing Poseidon is getting at is that social conservatives make a big deal out of infidelity among Dems, so why not apply the same logic to Republicans?

As I mentioned above, Sanford and Ensign both pushed for Clinton's impeachment specifically due to his infidelity.  In order not to be hypocrites, they should themselves resign.

Uh, as far as I know Conservatives are making a big deal out of it.

And Sanford should resign -as his own family won't ever trust him again, let alone his own State.
