How come on the back of the game the graphics look so great, but the reqs are so low?

Heres the Minimum Reqs:

1.4GHz Penitum 4
256MB RAM
aTi Radeon Chipsets

The chipsets range from the best to sum of the worst. I dont know the exact names of the chipsets. i know one is the 9200, which is what i have.

But if the game has such good graphics, why are the minimum reqirements so low? My computer is slightly better than that believe it or not.

Call of Duty 2 is the most CRAZY game I´v ever played. If you think about it; guns never stop firing, people die everyware & explosions all the time making you dizzy in your head.

ok all 7 of you didn't answer my question except for shifty2k5, so i'll ask again.

If the reqs are:

1.4GHz Pentium 4
256MB RAM
aTi Radeon Chipsets (from the best cards to the worst)

and my specs are:

1.5GHz
512MB RAM
aTi 9200 (which is supported)

would i be able to run it without lag on say low-medium settings?

I'm about 3/4 through COD2: Big Red One on Xbox and im loving every minute of it. So i want it for the computer. My parents are saying to just wait till next christmas so we can get a brand new one, but i want to buy it now and see if it works. If it doesnt, i'll still have it when i get my new computer. Catch my drift?

COD2 is a really nice game, i love it because there are three playable nations, however i don't like the russian campaign. The russian campaign was the best one in COD1, but i prefer the american one now.
And i hope they make a german campaign in the next cod. That is if the immature super-christian conservative american public can tolerate it without AH-NOLD banning it.

Why does the free world (Europe) have to suffer for what the americans can't accomplish?

I'm running COD2 on my laptop which has:

1.7 ghz processor
1 gig of RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 128mb

I can play the game running in DirectX 7 mode with textures on Extra High, 4X AA and Antisoptric Filtering on. The reason I play it on DirectX 7 is because if I were to set it to DirectX 9, it would become extremely choppy unless I tone down the textures and pretty much everything else really low, and by comparison, DirectX 7 looks way better.

So I'm going to guess that you can probably run the game on low-medium settings in DirectX 7 mode.
