The joke was in horrible taste Kmar but calling for him to be sacked? They should ignore him and dismiss him for plumbing such depths. They shouldn't have risen to it. If they trawl the internet they'll probably find a looooot worse out there.

Sarah Palin isn't worried about what David Letterman(has been) has to say about her... She is concerned that he is able to make a joke about a  pro baseball player having sex with either of her daughters...
If he made a joke about my niece like that i would punch him in his fucking face... I hope you all would be just as angry regardless of
your political leanings...
Yes, I would be pissed, but I wouldn't be calling for him to get fired.  Not that it will happen, anyway.  David Letterman OWNS the production company that produces his show.  The only way to get him fired is to get the Network to ditch him, and that is not likely to happen.

So, I am guessing that no one here even cares that he admitted the joke was in bad taste, and that he appologized for it last week?
I don't want him fired... haven't watched his show in years like a lot of other people... he used to be funny...
and his apology was half ass... this story will go away but the fact remains... he crossed the line...

I'm saying the people calling for him to be fired are idiots too. Afaik Palin herself hasn't said she want's him to be fired. She had a very normal reaction to an out of bounds joke. I'm not defending Palin because I think she is some great politician. The thought of her running this country still has me shatting bricks. I'm just in awe at how people are trying to flip the tables because some of her supporters are distanced from reality.

Bottom line is this: sticks and stones may break your bones but names should never hurt you. The world is full of nasty people. That's reality. These Palin supporters are only drawing additional undue attention to what is probably a fairly embarrassing thing to deal with for the Palin daughter. America is the land that gave us tshirthell.com and Howard Stern. This kind of thing occurring is part and parcel of free speech, warts and all. It isn't incitement to violence, bigoted or racist - it's just gutter humour.

Edit: I'm not having a go at Palin herself - just at her supporters.

My point being that I find her 'stance' smacks of mother-driven political theatre. And of course I could be wrong but I know that most politicians deserve as much respect and 'benefit of the doubt' as repeat-offending child molesters.
I agree, however, it isn't a politician we are discussing is it? It is her daughter and she should be off limits.

It is fit, proper and in good taste not to use the relations of those in the public spotlight as fodder for entertainment, that I agree with. It's crass - they never signed up for this. But at the end of the day, it's not the end of the world.

Sure he did; comedians cross the line all the time.  Remember the one who joked that she wished Limbaugh would die?  Mixing politics and humor is dangerous, especially given how bitter or protective people can be.  In our current, polarized climate, political jokes are both very easy to come by, and so charged that they gain be overblown.

Comedians are about the only people nowadays who can get away with the REALLY politically incorrect, racially charged, or sexist joke.  And I think that is a good thing.  I think that style of comedy is needed to give us an internal barometer of how far IS too far in a society where we all almost afraid to say anything that can be taken the wrong way.

So, conservatives; back up, re-engage your sense of humor. Liberals; don't forget that, not too long ago, you were all over-reacting to jokes being poked at Obama, screaming racism for the silliest of comments.  It goes both ways.

If you are offended because you are a parent... ok, I got nothing for you. Do what you feel is right.

That is just my opinion; I reserve the right to be wrong at any time.

Maybe but that's just emotion and human instinct. Something which one should often suppress. On this forum I try my best to debate things from a rational non-emotional point of view. Emotion clouds rationality.

The same thing happened to McCain, but with more serious consequences. He was forced to bow to the far left support and his strongest characteristic, being a maverick quickly disappeared. Shame really.

It also happened with Ron Paul. The negative attention he got from his supporters crushed him.

The real funny thing is that people actually support Sarah Palin.

Although thinking about it that's more scary than funny.

I try and debate in the real world, where emotion and human instinct is always a factor. and to admit you might feel the same as the Palin's if it happened to you kinda takes away from your argument

Speaking for myself, I could not have anticipated nor comprehended the way I feel about my children before fatherhood.  Now, my daughter is only turning 3 this year.  But I promise you I would be nose to nose with any man unfortunate enough to shoot his mouth off like that about my daughter.  There's just an unwritten rule that one should not talk like that about another man's daughter, especially an underage daughter.  Regarding the supporters wanting him fired?  Lame.  A simple condemnation of the incredibly crass statement would have been sufficient.

Well its official then, Letterman is not going on Sarah Palin's Christmas card list.

At least N.O.W. is on Sarah's side this time.  They were missing during the election.
