See I think (in my opinion, anyway) that's the idea. If you're some 1337-haxor kid who likes to play the game with Winamp roaring then you'll get what's coming to you. I personally enjoy immersing in the game and being able to use things like audio cues to get an advantage. It certainly helped enough while playing Counterstrike (which many people neglected).
I'm all for immersion and against music while playing etc.

But it's pretty annoying when other people can camp a corner and know you are coming, when I can't hear a single footstep over the sound of guns blazing or tanks roaring...

because if the 360 or PS3 were the lead version, then it'd be dumbed down and wouldn't be able to take advantage of the full processing power available today

just because you and others have some rich parents and you can spend money on all that shit doesnt mean everyone in the world can also.  ya i can buy all the new pc shit but why bother?  if the past few years have taught you anything it is you dont spend 300 for a graphics card when you can get an entire system for 300 that plays the same friggin game.

I don't disagree, but at the same time there are certain things (namely controls) that are far better on a PC than a console. Especially for flying. BF2 Modern Combat was awful, and Bad Company 1/2 haven't been as good as BF2 in my opinion.

@m3th most HDTVs are $1000, and most people have a TV anyway. And TV speakers are pretty good IMO...

Huh? I work for my money, I get money and save it and then buy the stuff I want. If a game that is coming out in 6+ months requires a gfx card that costs around $300 to play it well, that's simply saving around $12 each week. Pretty easy.

it was an intended exaggeration to point out how short sighted consoles are cheaper argument is.

You know if i wanted to play FPS on a console i would get one.  i tried once, it sucked.  i dont have time/patience to learn.

Yeah, I shifted to consoles when I got tired of buying new computer parts just to stay up to date. But I do miss certain perks of PC gaming.

That's true if you don't intend on owning very many games, unless you stick with last-gen consoles.

tbh consoles are cheaper. you should already have a tv and some speakers/audio out already... why wouldn't you? that's like factoring in the cost of a desk and an office chair when you 'spec a pc'. it's everyday electronics that you should have, anyway. the product lifecycles of pc hardware and console generations are pretty much the same... you're going to be buying a new $500+ system every 5 years at the least just to keep up with gaming technology, and the consoles seem to be reinvented on a similar timescale. it's pretty hard to argue that pc gaming is cheaper than a console, because it just isn't, really.

Once you have a good monitor and/or a television/audio system, they don't really factor into a computer or console purchase. I make the argument that consoles are cheaper only if you don't plan on building a large current-gen library with one of them. It doesn't cost much at all, however, to get a PS2/GC game collection up and running.

It's kind of a blurry line, because most gaming PC's cost far more to build than just buying consoles, which sort of offsets what you save by buying PC games.

If you ignore the cost of a TV and speaker system, you should ignore Monitor and Speakers for PC too...

A PC is more expensive to build than just buying an off the shelf console, true.. but you will need a PC in some form anyway, unless you still live in the stone-age, that factors in aswell.. and if you want you don't have to upgrade your PC untill the next gen console anyway... but if you want to you CAN!

When a new-gen console comes out, it's expensive as fuck, and if you don't buy it at release, the lifespan will be shorter than a PC...

I prefer a PC...

Oh and in ~10 years when I feel like playing an old game, I can... since PC's are reverse compatible with games since forever...

so many stupid assumptions here.

you 'already need a pc anyway' because of our modern era... but a person buying a console should factor in a tv and speakers? because, um, a television set with an audio-out (even in-built speakers) AREN'T just as 'necessary' for a modern lifestyle? a family home is 10x more likely to have a television in it than a computer (if you're talking exclusively about one or the other).

and no you cannot ignore the cost of the monitor and speakers for a pc as easily because they are very much 'required' peripherals/hardware for a PC to work as a 'complete unit'. it goes back to the average household already having a TV, whereas you don't just tend to have a spare LCD monitor and some desktop speakers lying around. it's not comparable. when you buy a new PC you need the 'dedicated' monitor/speakers... when you upgrade a console its not quite the same thing because a TV is a standalone piece of consumer electronics in itself. a 22" PC screen however, is not.

You still need both, if you don't have a PC today you can barely get by...

Console games are 33% more expensive that counts up fast too tbh...

Since HDMI became the norm you can use your TV as a monitor for your PC if you want or vice-versa...

I think we are just arguing demographics in the end here.. tons of social services can't be done here without a PC anymore...
