See I think (in my opinion, anyway) that's the idea. If you're some 1337-haxor kid who likes to play the game with Winamp roaring then you'll get what's coming to you. I personally enjoy immersing in the game and being able to use things like audio cues to get an advantage. But it's pretty annoying when other people can camp a corner and know you are coming, when I can't hear a single footstep over the sound of guns blazing or tanks roaring...
