Think I should take the risk with used Klipsch speakers and save a lot of money or buy the Altec ones?  I have 2.1 Altec ones right now and I love them but I've heard really good things about Klipsch

It's a risk. But then again, they would be worth it. So what I'd say is either get a guarantee/warranty, or bring an comp of your own (or a friend's) and test them on the spot.

Apparently its missing wires for 2 of the speakers though

How difficult would it be to get new ones and set it up?

If the cables are missing, it means that they're not integrated-->easy to replace. You just need to find replacements (or make some) and put them in.

Dead easy to set up.

What kind of cables would they take? Would the cables be expensive?

cables: https://i15.ebayimg.com/01/i/001/19/09/62b4_1.JPG

Don't think they'll be expensive. They're just standard speaker cables with what looks like a 3.5 mm connector at the end and another connector at the other. You can pick them up at any circuit city, show them the picture above.

I have the 2.1 system, which looks like the same sub and satellites but without the rear outputs on the amp. The cables on these are merely open speaker wire on one side and a 2-pole (mono) 3.5mm jack to the satellite.

You shouldn't be getting in over your head, finding a couple replacement cables is no big deal and installing them is the same that it would be with all the other speakers. There's nothing complex involved, only a bit of extra work to find the cables. If you're getting a good deal on the speakers, I'd say go for it.

I can't use an EQ, as I don't have a reference microphone at the moment.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I don't use equalizer as I don't need it but if I had to use it the settings would look like this:

You should fiddle around with it as it always comes down to your personal preference of tonality.

Actually, I've been thinking about it and I might need wireless rear satellites since behind my desk is my bed.  I was thinking of maybe mounting them on the ceiling and pointing them downwards?
I dont care if the quality is degraded 5% by making them so high or anything, I'd really like to have surround sound for my movies

Not as if either of you are doing anything useful with your audio equipment or musical passion, are you? Neither of you DJ at a basic level, let alone play an instrument or produce music. All you do is listen to 4 FLAC albums in your bedroom, whilst caring more about the fucking technical wizzardry of producing the sound than actually appreciating the SOUND itself. That's not cool, that's just pointless E-Penis geekery. My processor has more gigahertz than yours; my HD has a higher rpm than yours; my barely-used audio equipment has a higher fidelity than yours... who the fuck cares, this sort of one-up competition is supposed to die out on the school playground.

So I figured I should use a somewhat-compensating EQ even in lack of real reference. The lower curve is that of my stereo speakers.

Yeah, you could do that. Or, could you put them at ear level? Like in the room corners.

They'd be really far away, would that matter?
1 corner is like 5m and the other is maybe 8?  But those are more of on my side, not really behind.

Hmm. Pics? It'd be helpful if you could give me 360 degrees.
Otherwise, go for the ceiling, but try to angle them down AMAP.

All that geekery to listen to Guns and fucking Roses?

I hope that terrible shit was in FLAC.

That picture alone is evidence that the dick swinging between you and .Sup can go on for-fucking-ever... but neither of you will ever actually have a REAL fucking clue about sound and music.
