I wouldn't touch England, Scotland or Ireland with a 10foot barge pole. Don't get me wrong...they are all nice places but if it's your first time in Europe there are so many more exciting places you could go.lowing wrote:
Ok next month we are gunna take a week and go to back Europe. Not sure if we want to do something on continental Europe or go England, Scotland or Ireland.
What we are looking for is scenery and history. We are not interested in tourist traps. Any suggestions?
Also if you have any other ideas other than the England Ireland or Scotland, I am all ears.
The Mediterranean coast- (Italy, France, Spain)- The coastline of these areas are absolutely beautiful and warm. You even would have the opportunity to visit the backcountry about 45mins inland which has completely different scenery and imo shouldn't be missed. Varegg noted some good areas in Italy that are pretty culturally different to what you'll ever see if that's the kind of thing you're looking for.
Depends what you're looking for but I'd also highly recommend visiting the alps during the summer. There are some good areas south of the Italian-French boarders which offer some amazing hiking with cheap accommodation options.
Germany-nice place
Eastern Europe=is very meh imo although it depends where you go. Fatherted mentioned Prague and I've heard that place is beautiful but stay clear of Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, etc. I found these places to be pure missions and too damn warm during the summer.
Russia-no
Norway-A lot of people think it's cold there during the summer. It's actually the complete opposite and is the most awesome place I've ever been from June through mid september. Although it's ridiculously expensive it's a fucking nice place and even better if you're single. I honestly couldn't imagine a better place to be atm.
Take a trip to Barcelona-from what I've heard you definitely wouldn't want to miss out.
