Ok next month we are gunna take a week and go to back Europe. Not sure if we want to do something on continental Europe or go England, Scotland or Ireland.

What we are looking for is scenery and history. We are not interested in tourist traps. Any suggestions?

Also if you have any other ideas other than the England Ireland or Scotland, I am all ears.

There are a lot of tourists in Rome, but it's still very much a "legit" city, and doesn't seem to have been overwhelmed by tourists like Venice.

At the top of my list atm of places I want to go is St. Petersberg, you might wanna check that out.

Florence is also great.

Because it's full of welsh ofc.

Outside the UK/Ireland, Turkey is worth a look (Ephesus for example), Rome for obvious reasons, Barcelona for sheer culture. If you want scenery, Loire Valley + Biarritz (sp?) are my favourite places in all of Europe.

Germany - Potsdam just south of Berlin with Park Sans Souci, Potsdam is filled with 1600-1900 architechture.
Germany - The area that borders to Austria & Switzerland (but that's maybe the area you visited last year?)

Italy - The Ligurian coast from Genova and down towards France and maybe even into France and Monaco
Italy - Anywhere south of Rome is where you find the true Italian atmosphere and the landscape is truly epic, Capri is a must or why not visit Sicily

France - Normandie or anywhere around the Spanish border at the coast of Biscay

England - Lake District

Czech Republic - Praha, best city in Europe to visit with your camera ... you can go around for hours and hours and just be amazed what a beautiful city it is

Most of the people I've known who have visited Germany come back saying they wouldn't mind living there if they were fluent in German.

Is it true that they are very well organized and have a strong sense of community?

yeah last year we did the German Austrian border region. It is all I can do to keep from going back there, but I know there much more to see that is equally memorable .

I would absolutely live there. I was impressed with the people and the scenery as well as how clean everything is. Even the bathrooms in the gas stations were spotless. The food was amazing, everything fresh. Never been anywhere like it.

and yes I got the impression that people took pride in their communities

Watch out for those mooslims, all the laws have been changed to appease them so it might not be the europe you use to love and know.

Well, since I would be the guest, I wouldn't have much to say about what other countries do. My only choice would be to fit in or leave. hint hint hint.

In the case of Germany, they have somewhat of the opposite problem.  German Turks are somewhat disenfranchised by the inherently ethnocentric/racist citizenship rules of Germany.

There are varying levels of citizenship in Germany, and only native-born people of German descent can attain the highest/fullest level of citizenship.

Honestly, I'd miss out the UK. Personally, I find it a pretty boring place compared to the rest of Europe.

As Ted says, Prague is a fucking awesome place. Rome is also a great place to visit, it is touristy, but it's the kind of stuff you really have to see at least once in your life. Maybe just go to Italy? There's a lot to see there; visit Rome, Milan, Florence, Venice, Tuscany.
