Yeah, no.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I just finished this (guess what it is before reading the rest ):

It's a little sub-woofer amplifier (obviously, right?) of about 20W, made out of junk box components. It's crossed at about 80Hz, 20dB down at 100, and will be powering a little six-inch ported sub-woofer that I built many years ago.

Also, since I wanted to connect the speaker to my car stereo, some further changes had to be done to my good old Philips.

First, I had to add a line out capability that's still affected by the volume control. It's the black cable running out the back, and coming out of the hole in the lower left corner of the PCB.

https://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac7/FF_CCSa1F/japanesetentacblemonster.jpg

I then had to add a relay to allow the external amplifier to shut off with the radio. It manifests itself as this mysterious black box with wires coming out of it:

https://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac7/FF_CCSa1F/unknownblackbox.jpg
I always end up hating myself for making magical black boxes like this.

And a couple of revisions later (due to the case thinking it'd be a fun prank to short everything out,) it actually works!

https://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac7/FF_CCSa1F/itworks.jpg

The only problem is that, after I installed the rig in the car, I noticed that the filter in the woofer amplifier is set to just above the resonance frequency of the coupé, resulting in a horrible 100-ish Hz headache-incucing bass that I wasn't present in the shop.

I'd never come up with such a silly idea. You're so silly, Aussie. A death ray, ha ha ha.

I just changed the crossover frequency from about 100Hz to about 75Hz. Out with the headache-inducing 100Hz pounding, in with the glorious sub-bass.

No, definitely not, since most "ghetto" music loves 100Hz.

I just made a cable that makes connection between an MP3 player with a minijack output and an amp with balanced input possible. I'm very happy with the result.

Why on earth is it un-shielded the last ten centimetres?

the 1k€ HD800 has an unshielded cable at the Y split. Shielding is not needed as there are no objects that would cause interference. And can you talk normal or do you have to act like a jerk all the time?
