In response to the Winnenden school shooting in March, the German government is moving ahead with a plan to ban paintball, which politicians describe as a game that glorifies murder and teaches people to kill.

Two months after the deadly school shooting in the southern German town of Winnenden, the German government is planning to ban paintball. The tragic March event saw a young man named Tim K. shoot 15 people before turning his gun on himself.

According to reports in the Berliner Zeitung and Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung newspapers on Friday, games like paint ball and laser tag are to be banned in Germany in the future, and people who violate the law could be fined up to €5,000.

The interior minister of the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt, Holger Hölvelmann, welcomed the government's plans. He argued that the game was tantamount to "teaching people to kill" or "playing war." "Our society," he said, "should outlaw such cynical games that glorify violence."

I wonder for what reason they decided to bann this? Was there any recent shooting where the fellas where involved in paintball?

What I can think of in paintball is that you use your tactics to beat the enemy team, not how you would kill them. Or Just me who got it wrong?

They like to ban violence but really don't do much about their porn collection. Oddly you'd think that would be a bit of major issue down there. Concider it's probably up in MILLIONS. It wounds more people per day than any of those school shooter does in a lifetime. But since no one cares about those girls I guess it doesn't matter.

Either way, trying to ban things won't get rid of the problem. Specially not banning paintballs. It's a game for fun. None of those would actually go out with a real gun.

The problem is how paintball is preceded.
Woodsball is what most people see as a problem.
Dressed in Cammie's with markers that have been made to look like real firearms.
"Shooting" at players and getting "Kills" for breaking hits.
Add to this the mistaken belief that paintball tactics are the same as military tactics. I can state, as a passed service man and a current paintball player, that if you tried to use GOOD paintball tactics in a military/para-military situation you would get your butt handed to you.
For a starter, range. For another, in CQB, paintballs do not go through walls. Real rounds do. ( Hell, that's what I was trained to do.)

So, it comes down to a lack of knowledge by the complainers about the game. This is NOT helped by the twits that use a paintball marker to blast away at the public for "Kicks".
