So I was thinking of buying a Golf MK4 V5. The one with the 2.3 engine. Anyone got any opinions on it?

I'm looking at buying one hopefully next week if I can't find too much wrong with them in general.

Anybody know how to get a fuel injector back into a fuel rail?  One of them stayed in the intake manifold and popped off the fuel rail when I was removing it and I can't figure out how to get it back in, it's gonna be holding me up when I install the new intake manifold hopefully tomorrow

Engine in it's current state:

Kinda hard to say without more detailed pics and specs on the engine...

My initial response woul be pull it out of the manifold and stick it back in the rail, but I get the feeling that won't be useful...

Well, that is exactly what I was trying to do actually, lol.  I just couldn't figure out how to get it into the fuel rail but my uncle helped me do it this morning, you just have to remove the O-ring from the fuel rail and put it back on the injector and push that back in.  Still seems ever so slightly more loose than all the other injectors but we'll see how it goes when I have everything back together.

Finished cleaning the gasket mounting surface today and put in the new Fel-Pro PermaDryPlus gaskets and then loosely secured the new intake with two screws until I can find somebody who has a torque wrench I can borrow to properly tighten everything

I've got by plenty of times without a torque wrench. Run them all, all the way in, but not tight. Then tighten them all, following the proper sequence/order, with the same tool so you can keep the torque as close as possible. Don't over-tighten them.

Well, I got everything back in and it runs with no leaks!  I was especially worried about the new "Severe Duty" silicone Police Inteceptor hoses sealing properly, you can see they're the small heater hoses in the back(the ones I was worried about) and the large one in the front.

I have a rough idle now though, it was shaking the engine yesterday and making noise, then re-seated the belt after I took it off to test what was making the noise as well and the tensioner pulley stopped rocking the engine, I drove it to put some gas in it cuz I had about 1/8 of a tank and that fixed the rough feeling through the pedal.  Now it's just the rough idling noise and feeling that I gotta figure out, I still think it's either one of the pulleys or my IAC valve gone bad, I'm gonna have to test it without the belt on again tomorrow to see if it doesn't make any noise again once the belt is off

Any opinions on the Range Rover Evoque?  Screw gas mileage, that doesn't bother me.  Thinking of purchasing that car.  How is Land Rover reliability these days?  Will this last me at least 10 years as a daily commute, plus weekend "soft" off-roading?

Are you sure your intake gasket isn't leaking?
Sometimes you can hear it. You can also spray some carb cleaner around the intake gasket, if there is a leak the engine speed will increase (you'll notice the change).

Vacuum lines?

if you're orange from fake tan, bright blonde hair, fake nails and eye lashes, going out with a footballer and the closest to off-roading you do is up the kerb then it's probably perfect

I'm not interested in the "bigger" models.  My choices are the Evoque, GLK, RDX, X3, that Audi, Cayenne, and the like.  It's replacing a 10 year old CR-V.

Posh Spice aside, I'm from Cali, so bronzed skin and bleach blondes are the norm here.

Gonna take it up to Mountain High snow and tubing, Colorado river, camping, and Mojave Desert off-roading.  But will also be my daily commuter, aka, needs to be nimble swerving through traffic.

My worry is the transmission.  I want this one to last at least 10 years like the trusty CR-V, which is still going strong, even after my attempts at mild off-roading.

James / Top Gear gave it high marks.

none of those are particularly good for any kind of off-road. they're all attempts to cash in on the 'bling' factor that the range rover got, and go more down that road and less into actually being practical cars

imo if you want to spend that sort of money on something with seats+boot space+limited off-road you'd do better to either look at a good 4wd audi or the range rover/range rover sport.

Yeah, the Range Rover Sport was on the radar as well.

But the above is why I'm preferring the Evoque because those others are really more city SUV's.  I'll reevaluate the Audi though.

the evoque really is land rovers attempt at a city suv - more so than the sport (which while it wouldn't be very comfortable off-road, it is built on the normal range rover platform so it can actually do it). the 4wd a4/a6's are very common around alp ski resorts for a reason (:

Well, it's not leaking coolant but I suppose the air may be leaking

I did some testing with the pulleys today though and found out the idle isn't too bad with the belt off but when I put it back on, that's when it turns into a mess and the tensioner pulley starts jerking while idling even if I physically hold it as far left as it goes it still fights me, seems to be what's making the engine shake too if I had to guess, it doesn't do that with the belt off.

Also when I put the belt back on and started it up, the alternator pulley squealed and shot smoke for about 5 seconds, then stopped and resumed the heavy breathing idling noise I've been hearing lately.  What could that mean?

The idler pulley also barely moves with any momentum when hand-spun, is it supposed to spin freely on most cars?

well yeah, they're range rover, they're gonna play on their off-road brand image. the car itself clearly isn't for that though, it's aimed at footballers wives like tsex pointed out.

I don't have to prove my manhood (I fathered two boys), so I'm ok with that assessment.

I was actually going to get the FJ Cruiser, but saw way too many 18-24's already driving it.  And I hated that huge pillar.

for comparison, victoria beckham was involved in the design of the evoque

men with slide rules and sensible names like bob were involved in the design of the range rover

I love 3000's*, you had the VR-4 model right?

*Not modded to death old pieces of shit. 3000 stock is Mitsubishi's most beautiful creation.
