It's an amazing game. Really fun, addictive, great with friends.

sorry but i refuse to pick up a bunch of shitty 2d diy 'indie' games. especially 2d scrolling ones. it isn't 1993 anymore and i refuse to play that shit. i know gaming as an industry is becoming more and more shitty by the day, but i refuse to regress to that level of geeky bullshit. i'd rather just not play games at all.

It's fun regardless of what kinda game it is. Just because it's 2D, you've got to look past that

i bemoan the games industry a lot, yeah. graphics have a lot to do with that. but as i've said, i'm not resorting to playing indie-diy games just because the 'normal' gaming scene is so disgracefully bad. there are plenty of other things to do. and yes, being able to stop playing computer games when the industry has taken a nosedive, and do other things like reading a book, is very "enlightened" of me. thanks!

So refusing to play really good games because they are classed as indie is "enlightened". I think we are going to have to disagree on this one.

I don't get it uzi, why does it bother you so much if he wants to play a 2d game?

no i refuse to play them because i'm not interested in playing 2d fucking games in 2011. it's sick to me that gaming has got so fucking bad in the last decade, where 10 years ago we were all playing the most latest-groundbreaking stuff and it was great quality, whereas nowadays the most fun must be found in 1993 tech. it's retarded. i don't want to part with my cash to partake in it. other things to do.

It works as what it is BECAUSE it's 2D

no shit, a game designed in 2d works because it's 2d! i'm just not interested in playing it. it represents a purposeful and evasive regression in game-design. the fact they're so popular is a condemnation of how bad the current-gen gaming scene is. it all makes me want to weep.

i'm not saying 2d sucks, period. i'm just saying i'm not interested in playing a 2d game in 2011. note that tetris and lemmings are both from the '1993' generation that i am referring to. and they were great. for their time.

Got it. The entire entertainment industry should just avoid retro-anything, in the name of progress.

the current vogue for everything retro- is symptomatic of not knowing where to go next. it appears across all the arts and entertainment platforms. it's a cyclical historical phenomenon. 'retro-' is really just a holding period, mining the past, because the future is uncertain. i'm just not paying for it, nor seeing how it's particularly all-so-great. seems lazy to me.

OR MAYBE BECAUSE it's a small, low budget development team and that's all they have the knowledge and resources to make. And they made a great game given their constraints.

why would you want to pay for and play a game made with crappy constraints? that's about as convincing an argument as only playing snake 2 as your main game because "it is a great game made within strict constraints!".

Yesterday I played a round of chess, with its current form essentially coming from the 15th century.
It was great. For its time.
Guess I will go playing battle chess with paintball guns next time in 2011.

The constraints are different, not crappy.

Even a small-budget game can be a good game inside the box if well-designed. Duke Nukem Forever wasn't really made with crappy constraints, but flopped spectacularly.

I agree. They have little idea what they're about right now. Meanwhile, I'm going to try to enjoy what's delivered.

I's not the first time video games have been stuck in a rut. I think one of the first steps out of it would be for console developers to admit that dedicated servers are indispensable to controlling lag and enjoyment (kick/ban for undesirable players) high-population games, and for whatever adjustments made in that regard to pass on to the PC ports.

The second step will be to convince people whose libraries are already saturated with games that they really should buy the next. Give sequels more of a rest (I'm looking at you, Nintendo).
