This could lead to a whole new kit in BF2 - the Battlefield Chaplain.  His kit would be the standard knife, side-arm and carbine.  However, he would get the Holy Handgrenade of (Antioch/Mecca/Angkor Wat) (Thanks Grim!) and a "Religion Bag."  If a team mate is critically wounded the Chaplain could run over, hold out the medic bag & perform "Last Rites."  Becuase he is easing the suffering of the wounded, the wounded player re-spawns twice as fast.

The Holy Handgrenade has double the blast zone, but he only gets one per spawn.  Except for the Handgrenade of Angkor Wat - that will induce a peaceful feeling of serenity and cause all within the "Blast Radius" to lay down their arms and meditate for 10 seconds.  At the end would be a free-for-all for the dropped kits.

Also, the US Chaplain could hold the bag aloft to part especially deep water for a ground assualt.

The MEC Chaplain could hold the bag aloft & yell "JIHAD!!" causing all on his squad to sprint twice as fast for twice as long.

I'm at a loss for the PLA Chaplain.  Sorry, I am not as familiar as I should be on far eastern culture (Damned Americans!  It's all about US!).

Other than that faffery - are you asking about Christian/Jewish/Muslim run servers - or actually incorporating religion as a part of the game?  Civ IV does just that with the founding & spreading of religion as a way to bolster win points.

You could put pork down so Mecs would refuse to pass or enter a building Vehicle. Rub pork on your Assets so mec Spec ops would refuse to go near it.

and i still think it would be cool to piss on the Guy you killed.

AT this point I think the church will do anything to get there numbers up, young people are thinkers and are not falling for there bs, so if suckering them into there superstitons by offering them video games is now there thing, I wouldn't be surprised.

Do you guys hate Christians or something? Not all of you, just some. I'm Christian, fully, but i still disagree with combining video gaming with religion. It's fantastic that people are out there spreading the Word, but it seems a little, strange, to be preaching on a game.

I hate to tell you this, but more of Christianity has been spread at the tip of a sword than by any other method.

I know that, what with the crusades and everything, but I've been told that the crusades and other such actions were the work of men, not god.

Christianity has gone through some very rough times. The crusades were part of it. Christianity today is very different from Christianity in the 13th centurary. The crusades were not an act of God, they were an act of men. (Mainly the Pope's idea) Jesus started Christianity, now how peaceful was He? A: Very.

It's sad to see how many people think Christianity a 'lame' religion. But obviously you've never been in a Christian community. The Media portrays Christians as 'freaks'. We're not. We feel hurt, shame, sadness, even suicidal. Jesus is there to bring us out of those feelings. How good does eternal life sound to you?

With the whole 'God by sword deal'. Remember that the crusades were a small length of history compared to history of the religion itself. Think of Paul, he spread the Word by peace. I'm not going to deny that there are Christians who take thing a bit too far. But not everyone is like that.

Christian Studies, I'm sure you've heard of it, or been IN it if you go to a Christian school. I find it the most boring subject there is.
1. I know everthing..
2. It's too biblical. I want to learn about real world issues effecting Christians and secular people alike.

So don't shut God away without taking him seriously for a while. Similarly, don't judge Christians until you've walked a mile in their shoes.

For God will judge you as you judge others.

BF2 is too fast-paced to do much chatting anyway. And as others have said, if it bothers you much, you can still leave and play somewhere else.

But I must admit, the idea of christians getting a "christian" BF2 server is quite amusing. after all, it is a war game, and I had always thought the church is opposed to those.
no, thats pascifism, but the ten commandments allow you to kill if your defending yourself, and most wars are caused by religion

Just one quote for you all, Marconius you might like this.

"It was just a bunch of people using religion to be really nasty to each other" - Dave Lister, Red Dwarf....

He said this in relation to the Crusades.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

Religion and video games ? I don't think it would be appropriate in a FPS. But there're a lot of exellent RPGs which criticize religious influence : Xenosaga, FFT and FFX for example (I wonder if someone here had already played to these awesome games)

The bible can never be taken seriously.  Not until they can account for the 4.5 billion years they missed from the first edition.

I have no problem with people of religion, so long as they keep it to themselves.  Unfortunately, the Christians are starting to polarize the US, just as much as the Muslims in the Middle East.  Religion is leading to an Us Vs. Them mentality, and it isn't getting any better.

How many times has religion had to change their so called "God ordained" proclimations because science was moving in the face of religious dogma?  Just a few hundred years ago saying that the Sun, not the Earth, was the center of the universe was herasy.  It was eventually proven true, beyond any shadow of a doubt, and it had to be accepted.  Religion and science have often bumped heads.  The difference is that science is willing to lay their cards on the table.  They will stipulate a theory, then show the evidence they collected to back their statement.  Some times it is completely wrong, and is disproven.  Some times it is partially correct, and changed and additional information are added later on.  Religion is based on a "because the Bible says so" to support its claims.  Some moderate Christians have allowed science to co-exist with religion.  They believe that evolution was God's means of creation, but that flies in the face of the Genesis creation in the Bible, and the ultra right wingers aren't willing to accept that.

Flecco, Red Dwarf is absolutely hilarious!  Well played!
I remember the episode where Kryten is explaining "Silicon Heaven" to Lister, and at the end of their discussion, basically says something to the extent of:
"Oh, your heaven was just made up so you people wouldn't go crazy!"

"Gods are fragile things; they may be killed by a whiff of science or a dose of common sense." - Chapman Cohen

"Faith: not *wanting* to know what is true." - Friedrich Nietzsche

Oh yes, wars have been committed in the name of religion.  These are dwarfed by the tens of millions killed by avowedly atheist states.  Think:  fascism in Germany - 13 million in the Holocaust, 20+ million more in the rest of the war; communism in Russia:  over 20 million dead by Stalin's hand alone; communism in Cambodia: 3-4 million dead.

I don't know the totals in communist states like Idi Amin's Uganda, or Kim Jong Il's North Korea (where they steamroll Christian's feet first to prolong the pain) but these, too, are legendary for their brutality.

Man's capacity for violence comes not from religion but from himself.

Horseman, no.  I actually dislike D&D.  Considering I graduated college last year, I'd say I enjoyed an equal balance of tennis, billiards, and biking along with Unreal Tournament, Desert Combat, Quake 3 and mods thereof, all that paired up with working day and night for my Bachelor of Science degree.

Going to keep trying to find a way to attack me to make you feel better?

being a practicing christian....i see nothing wrong with it, you all are just blind to the truth that Christ died on the cross for your sins and when push comes to shove, when you die your either going to heaven or hell. If you accept Christ Jesus as your personal savior then you will live eternity in heaven, if not, then you will go to hell and live in torment where there is nashing of teeth and where you will burn for eternity.  Whether you believe these things to be true or not, that is your choice, and only God can change that, and you want to change.  But the truth is, what these people are doing just practicing a faith that is of peace and love and are trying to reach out to those who dont know nor understand Christ and the love he has for you.  Feel free if you have questions or whatever, let me know, i will try to answer everything i can possible.  God Bless fellas, maybe ill see you on a server....just think about what i said though....seriously.

Yes, but it's the whole "Holier-than-thou" attitude which makes your spiel a kind way of saying "Well guys, I believe this happened for you, so you should really believe in it or you're going to Hell." You weren't stating an opinion more than giving out a disguised way of making people turn towards your line of faith, complete with wanting questions and making the casual threat of going to a terrible place (even if people don't believe in it), plus advising to "think about what I said."  I've just seen it too much, mostly on Atheist threads where christians run amok and try to convert everyone in sight, and we just shoot them down time after time again as we are trying to discuss other topics.

It would've been just fine if you had said "I believe in this, and I agree with these people running the servers," but you had to go and market out your faith...

not at all....you misunderstood and i apologize, it was all in all just me saying that i didnt mind the idea of it regardless of whatever everyone else said about it. Everyone will have their own opinions and values....doesnt make it right or wrong....i am BY NO MEANS holier or anything like that than anyone....lets get that straight

...secondly, does it really bother you that much to shut yourself off completely to something?

I've already been part of it....I was raised as a catholic, but started thinking for myself when I was 12.  So I gladly push myself away from that and anything of it's nature (I've already done my research and know what everyone has to offer, and I choose to just not accept any of it and live life the way I feel most comfortable with).
