Let's say I have $500-700 dollars to spend on computer. I have a case already that should work I guess, but would be willing to buy a cheap one new. What should I get for BF2 and maybe some other older games/good enough for some recent games? Will also use for MS Office schoolwork/internet.
I'd up the PSU to 550W just to future proof it a little bit, but other than that, that's about perfect.ebug9 wrote:

It'll probably play you games like Empire: Total War and Mirror's Edge on high.

Awesome card just got it myself and free shipping on the psu so it still sneaks under your budget at around 685.
Edit: Board has only 1 pcie slot so no crossfire.

First up what you can get for that $700 (minus some $60 in MIR):

This build basically maxes any game you throw at it.
If, however, you don't need so much power and thus want to save, you can switch the video card to HD4850, CPU to E5x00/E7x00 series intel, and the motherboard for something less enthusiast level. If this is the case, I can fix the build for your needs.

He clearly isn't going CF so 550w would be waste of money.

I dont like how that hd 4870 is single slot especially since that case has little cooling. What is your current case that you think you can salvage.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

Its dual slottie for 100% sure.

It takes up 2 slots but doesnt have a back plate for both so all the hot air will get dumped into the case.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

I don't know, but it is kind of old and not amazing, it's from just a basic computer, nothing special.dill13 wrote:

The HD 4870 outperforms the GTX 260 AFAIK. How can you say it's old and not amazing?

GTX260 = HD 4870 512MB < HD4870 1GB < GTX260core216
Basically.

for one thing, the 4870 and the 260 perform more or less the same, and if anything, the 260 would come out on top.TopHat01 wrote:

secondly, he was saying his case is old and not amazing, not the card
Yeah, my case is old and is from a pretty basic crappy computer, I have a few available cases, all similar in crappiness. I will probably just get some cheap case or the one my friend got for like 20-30 bucks.ceslayer23 wrote:

Ah, my apologies, read your post wrong. For a case, I'd highly suggest a P182, while it's not the cheapest case, it's very solid, and a pleasure to build in. I've also heard good things about the Coolmaster HAF and the Antec 1200.nickb64 wrote:

@DeathUnlimited: Thanks for that, I wasn't completely sure...

If you can afford getting two of those video cards, I'd recommend just getting a better one.
Just get a HD 4870 or similar instead of CF HD4670.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
I don't really know what I'm doing, but it seemed like it might be good and seemed like a decent price to me.Freezer7Pro wrote:

Just don't use force. (ram might be little tight fit first time tho)
If you think you need force to do something, ur doing it wrong.
