It says the servers are down but Miggle is telling me they are not. I cant start up L4D or TF2 because a window will pop up immediately saying its encountered a problem and needs to close

fun

It sucks when it has problems. There problems have been more and more common lately, after the massive influx of users since Left 4 Dead, Empire Total War and Dawn of War 2.

I wish they'd do something about it . They have to be able to meet demand. Without it their service is useless. Hopefully things will improve soon.

Just now i don't have a problem getting into games though.

I guess it will just sort itself out over time

Time is the bandage of all computer wounds. Unless the server catches fire.

Yeah. The numbers of users online at peak hours went from 1.2 million before Left 4 Dead was released, to about 1.8 million now. Massive massive growth.

But they still should've been ready

I hate them, they should make the new players not be able to play their games, not me

My reaction to this week's weekend deal. I think I got it with my graphics card and never bothered installing it.

What is the difference exactly for the end-line consumer?

One and the same, two brands under the same service and product range tbh. Hard to distinguish and disassociate the two. I guess you mean Valve for their content and game design and hate Steam as a content-distribution platform... but half of the business-product as a concept is the marketing and production; if Valve choose to distribute and integrate all of their games into Steam, then you can't really regard them as separate entities.

I love the games valve makes but I hate the way they distribute them

Yeah, I understand your opinion and mostly share it (although much of Steam Friends, Steam In-Game and Steam Community I love, and I love the convenience and the concept of digital content hosting so old games don't rot my hard-drives space etc.)... my point is that for the consumer/gamer, there is no way to dissect the two aspects of their business anymore. Valve and Steam are synonymous and cojoined entities/brands/labels. You can't buy a Valve game without using or having to integrate Steam, and Steam is essentially built around and for the most part supports Valve's game portfolio.

Valve = the company who makes the games.
Steam = the program used to play/buy them.

The company works perfectly, the program is riddled with bugs.

Or for me anyway.
