I've tried NHS Direct but that sucks big time, so I thought I'd turn to BF2s before I go and see the quack tomorrow.

Playing football today I took a bad tackle.  The studs of my boots were firmly in the ground when someone clattered my leg.  Anyway, I felt a pop in my knee and fell down like a sack of shit in agony.  I finally managed to get up after half an hour and tried to walk it off, that seemed to work somewhat.  Tonight however my knee hurts whenever I move it and going up / down the stairs is a right cunt.

I'm just worried it could be ligament damage or something, so does anyone have any experience with knee injures?  Do my symptoms sound familiar?

sounds like ligament damage.  as you may know, tom brady tore his ACL and MCL in stress that sounds pretty similar to what you had - a hit from the side.  check it out.

I remember I knocked my brothers knee out of joint once when we were fighting and he dropped to the floor in pain like a sack of potatoes. It sounds like a strain/sprain though. As with most injuries, rest will probably help. (Trust me, I'm pre-med *)

did it dislocate or just pop in and out like a sublux? i subluxed my knee but didnt really hurt just felt weird. i didnt do anything about it till the next day when it subluxed again, turns out it was a minor meniscus pull which caused joint instability, if left untreated it would have kept popping and could very well have dislocated completely and locked up. i wore a full leg brace for six weeks, no surgery was necessary since it wasnt that bad and was in a good spot to heal naturally. hopefully its just cartilage damage and not a ligament, i suggest get to an orthopedic specialist in knees, get an x ray and then an mri, get ready to open that wallet, hope everything turns out ok

Nah it didn't dislocate, the knee just 'popped' which was then followed by excruciating pain thats the only way I can describe it.

As for the opening of my wallet ... we have socialised medicine over here

Thanks for the replies so far people.

The pop is a sign of a blown ACL. Your leg will probably be swollen as shit in the morning and your knee will feel unstable when you try to walk on it. Go to a doctor and get it checked.

I've had some experiences with knee injurys so heres just my say:

Just because you heard a pop doesn't mean you tore your acl. I had the exact same incident happen to me (I was a lineman, got blindsighted by two guys, one going at my knee one way, one going another) and I felt a pop. It was extremely painful for the first 1 or 2. Then when the trainer looked me over, the pain was gone, and all that was there was a loosness in the knee. Turned out I had pretty severely torn my MCL which is on the inside  side of your knee. heres a pic (LCL is the ligament on the outside, MCL is the torn ligament in this picture, and the ACL is a ligament that crosses like an "X" on the inside of your knee):

Depending on where you were hit on your knee, you may have suffered from several different injuries. It could be a torn MCL, LCL, or (better hope it's not this) ACL.  I suggest you get it checked out ASAP, and stay off of it, lest you aggravate it more.

And just a heads up, if you've torn ANY ligaments, the minimum you are gonna be off of it or in a brace, is six weeks. If it's bad enough you may even require surgery. But surgeries on torn MCL's and LCL's aren't that common, so hope for one of those. ACL's require extensive surgeries most of the time, but it depends on the tear.

You may also have something wrong with the miniscus, but thats rare.

short version: GO TO THE DOCTOR

Hopefully Switch a lot of the pain and non movement is just from the swelling, it will click a lot as it swells up and swells back down.  Good luck with the quack, ask him for some penis pills for me please mate, Ive run out.

tbf, if you damage a joint, you should go to hospital. i've lost most of the dexterity in my left hand because i put off going to hospital.

flesh wounds are easily treated at home, but anything involving moving bits needs attention, it rarely heals right without proper treatment.

That would be something you go to the hospital for right after it happened. GJ fucking your knee up more by not doing so.
